Hi all,
   At the back of most water manuals should be a pressure/temperature/output graph, about which, (too often), little is said in the manual.

   Certainly, in desalinators sold for the N Atlantic market, the common pressure setting that you are told to use is about 800psi. This assumes a sea temperature of about 8-10C

   If you use this setting in tropical sea waters, you run the risk of "overdriving" the membranes, which can seriously reduce their working life.

   I modified our Seafresh watermaker to add a flowmeter, and increased the pressure till I got just below the rated flow. In Malaysian/Thai/Indonesian waters the pressure needed was about 600psi, with an inshore water temperature in the high 20's C

   So in warmer waters I suggest a reduction in operating pressure, according to the graph, if you have one, and if not to a level that gives you just below your "rated" output.

Hello Ian,
You do not say what the output is, on mine, because of the high sea temp, if I were to turn the knob far enough to get the needle into the green the out put would push the metal “float” up to the top and according to Martin de Jong this would block the flow and be really bad news. If you email Martin you will get good advice the same day. His English is perfect.
Your rust/seizure problems with the bowthruster are horrific. Strangely so far no sea water has ever entered the compartment on mine. I hope that it lasts!

Hi John,

I am getting close to running out of adjustment of the pressure setting
knob on my 160 l/h. Filters are new but I can only just bring the
pressure into the green band. It may be due to the very warm sea
temperatures at present, but I am wondering it it also may be due to
high pressure pump wear? The oil is changed every 200 hours. Total hours
are around 500.

Any thoughts?

Kilkea II,

The capacitor on BeBe's 160l Dessalator Low Pressure pump is rated at
12.5 microfarads (&#956;F or MFD). The voltage should be 460 to 500
volts. You will need a pigtail from the capacitor of about 6" to 8".
If you cannot get one that attaches like the original (nut threaded to
the end of the cap), you can wire-tie the cap to the motor housing.

Be sure to attach the wires to the same terminals on the motor as the
original cap. There is no polarity of the capacitor wires, but if you
wire it to the wrong terminals, it may cause the generator to stall.

the capacitors on the high pressure motor are 30mfd each and 7cms x
4.5cms as a techie replaced them with ones 14 cms long and these made
the genset stall. Luckily I had kept the old ones!

specs and apparently it is important to have the right one. If anyone
know the specs of the capacitor would you please let us know.
