Out-haul gearbox for SM2K

kimberlite@...

Stephan,I ordered the parts from LeRoy Sommer. The gearboxes, worm gear, and bronze gears came  came unpainted. loose in a bag with the lip seals and gaskets. . There were no roller bearings(sealed ball bearings) included. I had a friend who owns a large machine shop assemble it and drilled and tapped 2 holes to grease the box. I also  took a few thousands off the outhaul shaft and key. I had the gearboxes powder coated .  I also rebuilt the old 2 gearboxes using newbronze gears from LeRoy Sommer so I have 2 spares. However i believe greasing the boxes and Genoa furler regularly will increase the life considerably, Kimberlite is 10  years old , so i hope not to face this problem in the immediate future.with respect to the boom, I tried everything to remove the furler shaft. After all else failed i went to the sledgehammer. It was simple as the wire on the furling motor is long enough to put the boom on deck by just removing the bolt in the gooseneck.I believe if you go to the LeRoy Sommer website you can find the exploded drawing of the gearbox.FYI, although i used a sledgehammer to work on the boat I am a Jeweler and was a watchmaker and know how much force to apply to do a job.Fair winds,Eruicsm376----- Original Message -----From: stephreg Date: Wednesday, November 7, 2012 4:49 pmSubject: Re: [Amel] Out-haul gearbox for SM2KTo: amelyachtowners@...> > > > Eric,> > Wow!
