Re: [Amel] SM2K Hull# 437 new owner

Alan Leslie

Thanks Colin,

The pics are great.
In the manual it says that the rudder anodes and the SSB ground plates are connected together.....where exactly is this connection ??

Yes I'm getting a 30A 24/12V converter for the "BLU".

I live in Australia but the boat will travel back and forth from New Zealand to the Pacific...New Zealand for the cyclone season, then back to South Pacific. Intend to go to Tahiti in 2014.

Cheers
Alan

Hi Alan

We placed the ICOM710 above the wet jacket locker on RHS of Nav Station.
Found this fine for use while sitting at nav station stool. AT130 tuner is
in the rear locker on Sbd side near where outboard motor sits. Have seen
many other Amels with same arrangements. Decided on the long whip antenna
on transom, sbd side just near Tuner. It is important for the tuner to be
as close as possible to the antenna. Remember you have a 24v boat and these
ICOMS are 12v so I also installed a new separate 24v to 12v transformer
dedicated for this which sits just behind the ICOM710 in the cabinetry.
Cabinets all come apart easily to access the rear.

I will upload a file on Island Pearl II with some pics of SSB installation
for reference. The Super Maramu 2000 comes ready grounded and ready for SSB
so not difficult at all to install an SSB with excellent long range
performance. Also there are great channels that you can easily access to
run your cables from nav station right to rear locker where the tuner sits.
Pictures tell a million words so will put these up on the Amel site for you
in next 24hrs.

Good luck with it all. Where do you hail from and where will you be sailing
to, and storing her? We are at Scarborough Marina, on north side of
Brisbane. Good reasonably priced wet and dry storage facilities here,
outside the cyclone area, and completely safe from flooding as on the bay
and with no rivers entering this area. We normally have a number of Amels
staying here each season.

Thanks Colin,

Elyes doesn't have an SSB. I've ordered an ICOM 710 and AT130 with a
Pactor Modem, but I a bit unsure of exactly WHERE to install it..

Where is your SSB installed and where is the tuner ?..Do you have a whip
antenna or do you use the supplied triatic insulated antenna ?..or ?

Anything you can tell me would be helpful.

Cheers
Alan

Welcome Alan

ELYES is a beautiful boat and your will be truly happy with her I am
sure.
Well worth the trip to the Pacific area to find such a really nice Amel
at
a good price. Thank you also for your helpful posts on SSB radios. I have
the 710 with AT130 Tuner.

If any of your friends, or others in the community, are looking for
another
beautiful Super Maramu 2000 in these waters please note I am about to put
Island Pearl II (late 2001 hull #332) on the market in Brisbane,
Australia
at a good price. She is UK registered, and in absolute mint condition
inside (like new) with just 1470hrs on the Yanmar and 690hrs on the 7kv
Onan. Carefully looked after by an Amel technician for the first 10 years
of her life and many tens of thousands euros spent on her in 2012 for new
Dessalator 100/DUO watermaker, New Raymarine 2nd Autopilot, AIS 650, 2 x
e-70',, 4 x -70's, 2nd Simrad VHF with remote, Pacific, Atlantic, Indian
charts (hard copies & latest electronic) etc etc..I sailed her over the
Atlantic in 2012 and she is completely ready to continue safely back
around
to Europe from Australia right now, even with full fuel tanks..

A business opportunity and short term finances forces me to sell but I
will
certainly be back for another Super Maramu 2000 as soon as we can afford
it
again. She is our 7th sailing yacht and we will look no further than
another Super Maramu 2000 when we can afford to purchase again. Anyone
wanting information contact me direct on colin.d.streeter@ so that
we do not clog up this wonderful site...
