Many thanks, I have had two different engineers look at it and we all are all baffled. I have sent it off to a machine shop to see if they can figure it out. The oil seal at the front is easy enough to replace without removing the gearbox from the mast. But after ten years of use there was some water inside so I justifying removing it in that basis!

Trevor

No I regret that I did not. Once I had a replacement in case something went wrong I used enough force to get enough clearance to be able to flush out the cavity and then pump it full of grease. It has been OK ever since but I do not have an issue with leaking grease.

Sorry I cannot be of more help. I to woul dbe interested to know how to strip this down comletely

Hi Martin,
Did you ever figure out how to remove the pinion from the manual outhaul gearbox.
In my case the front oil seal has failed and what appears to be lithium grease has been running down to the foot of the mast.
Like you I have removed and stripped the gearbox as far as possible yet I am baffled as to how to release the pinion and hence the black plastic block that houses the splines for the winch handle and the offending oil seal.
Many thanks.
Kind regards,
Trevor
