On the Raytheon ST7000+ auto pilot that came on my Super Maramu (SM2K #289), if you press both the Standby and Auto pilot, you are in wind vane mode.

Bob,
Two autopilots,a spare brain and control panel. Pay attention to the response setting on your autopilot to save amps. Trimmed correctly there is no lee helm. If you have a few extra dollars/pounds fit the autopilot with a wind option which gives you the best of all worlds. I am still waiting to see my first SM with a wind vane. there must be a reason.
Good luck.

Has any SM owner fitted a windvane for ocean passages? If so what make?
I am considering making this addition before my next passage but have heard some reports that certain boats do not respond well to either Hydrvane or Monitor systems. Thoughts?
