Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] Bend in Mizzen mast

Eric, Is there not at least one turnbuckle , where it attaches to the main mast? If not, could you afford to shift the main mast forward , bringing the mizzen with it . Does the mizzen's bend aft start above the lower shrouds or is there a bow, if there is a bow then maybe the aft lower shrouds could be tightened, the apparent effect would be that the top had moved forward. Just a thought. Pat

Hi Eric. Is it plumb from the spreader down?  If you tighten the lower back stays  and loosen the lower fore stays, that would bring the lower part of the mast forward a little and straighten it if the top doesn't move???  It might make the whole mast lean forward a little, but I doubt enough that you could see it.

I would think so also but my triatic has insulators as it is used for an antenna.  It has no turnbuckle.
Any other ideas?

Eric , I would think if you tightened the triatic , it would pull the top of the mizzen forward . Pat

I just noticed that we have a small bend in the mizzen mast. It bends to the stern near the top of the mast. I checked the stern backstays and they are loose. Any ideas as to how to straighten this out?
