I have SM #243, 1999
"SuperMaramu2000" which I purchased in 2008.  I
had the Volvo 78HP and it was very adequate.  I did have
problems with getting it's rpm above 2200 as have many
others with that engine.  After 3 years of trying to figure
out what was wrong and being told it wasn't the engine
by several good deisel mechanics, I finally checked the
original AutoProp serial numbers and was told it was
recommended for the SM with 100HP Yanmar.  I had the prop
repitched and it was golden...until a year later when the
block cracked and I had to repower.  I used the Yanmar 110
HP (the old 100 no longer in production).  Even with an
inappropriately pitched prop, I think the old Volvo 78 was
all you need.  Be sure you do a sea trial that includes
running the engine up to max rpm.  If you find it won't
get over 28-2900 rpm, and it has an autoprop, make them
service the autoprop first (it doesn't take much to
throw it off...worn bearings, a few barnacles, etc), and
check the serial number for pitch  (call Brunton's, the
US AutoProp distributer).  Have a prop shop look at what is
recommended for a boat like yours.
 
With the older 9 battery setup (1 start and 8 house) I
charge for an hour twice a day with no wind generator or
solar panels.  I don't think the bigger house bank
would allow you to charge once a day unless you added solar
and/or wind.
