Thanks for the response I really appreciate it and keep it coming from the others. I think that there might be some communication difficulties right now considering I am in Boston and the captain and crew are only in communication 1 or 2 times daily via irridium data connection. Riza from Turkey has been in touch with us both and is helping the situation. I know anything is possible on a boat (speaking from past experience) but I am hoping that this is a simple fix like an autoprop bearing and nothing major mechanical. The boat was just prepped for this trip and surveyed in the past month. I look at this leg (Marmaris ~ Malta) as a shake down for the remaining 4,300 NM.

The bottom, prop were both cleaned before the trip, anodes replaced and all systems were tested.

BTW Bill: I have not forgot about your suggestions for a new mattress and Gardener Mattress is coming to visit when she arrives in Boston. I will let you know.

When I did the haul out, antifouling, C drive service, had the propeller entirely rebuilt and now the vibrations are gone, plus I gain 200 rpm !!!
Some say the propeller needs to be rebuilt every 2000 (engine) hours or 10 years.

Bill,
I should also have said that it could be the
AutoProp if the hydraulic shaft brake is not working or not
installed. That would allow the prop to spin with the motor
off and result in vibration.
But, that prop could simply be fouled. Did your
captain rule out a fouled prop, assuming a parallel problem
with the shaft brake?

seen has a hydraulic shaft brake that will stop the shaft
with the engine off...therefore no spinning.
Is the delivery captain familiar with Amels? Is
he familiar with diesel engines? I think that he might be a
lacking in knowledge about Amels, or lacking in his report
to you.
If I had to guess, you have a cylinder or two
not firing correctly, o'er possibly some sort of issue
with the transmission. And possibly a motor mount issue.

SSB, and if your captain can operate it, I will be happy to

The captain bled the injectors to be sure. It is currently
running a Yanmar 4JH4 110HP with under 500 hours and a
Burntons G5 autoprop. Captains guess is that one of the
bearings failed in a blade. Current ETA to Malta is 275 NM
in light air at 4kts. Anybody have any insight that can pass
along?
