As reel halyard winches and wire halyards are antique technology, fairly dangerous to operate ( especially by anyone unfamiliar with the tendency they have to remove teeth ) replacement with a stronger modern specialty rope halyard and a self-tailing winch makes absolute sense.
Thoughtful, well consider modifications to elder Amel’s can be a good thing and the experienced sailors in this group will not hesitate to provide guidance. None of us have a real opinion about anything, you might have noticed!

Similar boat (LOL)...I've also received advice to replace but hesitant.
Has anyone done this on a Maramu or Sharki (mine is a 82 Maramu).
