Duane, I assume yours in the Yanmar 100hp. I have cleaned diesel residue from BeBe since we owned her. I believe that you will get some smudge no matter what. It is true that a fouled AutoProp will cause unburt fuel to pass thru the exhaust as smoke, adding to the smudge problem. A fouled AutoProp bites too much water and places to great of a load on the engine, which causes the captain to give the engine too much throttle, resulting in unburnt fuel. Before you tell a mechanic to rebuild a turbo, you might have a trusted and qualified mechanic adjust the valves and remove the injector nozzles and send them for cleaning and testing. If this has never been done to 477, it is likely due. Bill Rouse
