Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] Bow thruster lip seals
So with all this discussion about lip seals for the bow thruster propeller shaft, how does this relate to the c-drive prop shaft lip seal discussion? For example which way should the single bow thruster seal faceā¦keeping oil in or water out? If RTV is a good idea for the bow thruster, is it similarly a good idea for the c-drive? Shopping for RTV is interesting given the range of products. Locktite and Permatex seem to be the most available manufacturers. Both have a range of RTVs. Perhaps important to get one that tolerates oil. I wound up with Permatex Ultra Blue from an auto parts store which is said to be oil safe.

Mark,
Yes,
I think using RTV on the propeller shaft seal improved the water tightness. Blue or Clear works.
I guess that I should update the instructions in the files section.

Bill,
I am a little confused (very normal for me). Are you saying to use blue RTV on the lower oil seal behind the prop? I was aware that RTV should be used on the upper 80mm lip seal inside the locker, but not the lower lip seal.
With best regards,

Alan,
Amel sent the following seal for the bow thruster shaft:
Paulstra
792521
IEL 30. 42. 7.
MI 1 VY
When installing it, use some RTV on the outside edge of the seal and make
sure that it is pressed all the way in. The space for the seal is about 9mm
deep and the seal is 7mm thick.
