I always drop the motor twice a year (also the pin in the outhaul- I use anti seize for that) and load up the motor shaft and the spline in the thruster with waterproof grease. I only drop it about 6 inches. I have been doing this since reading the first horror story.
The idea of a chain wrench around the motor and a piece of pipe sounds like a great idea if there was a problem.

As usual I'm having trouble finding the pic of the bow thruster removal tool. Do you know where to find it?
Mine has always come apart easily, but it sounds like something it would be nice to have aboard.
