I have thought for a while that the story about the rivets being shear pins is an urban myth only given credence by repetition.
From an engineering standpoint aluminum rivets make absolutely terrible shear pins, for a lot of reasons. Amels are engineered way better than that. I think the rivets were used in an effort to prevent galvanic corrosion, not as torque limiters. The tendency of the rivets to tear out under load was a bug, NOT a feature.
I am glad to see Amel recognized they cause more problems than they solve and changed to bolts.
