When you are testing the water from the kitchen faucet you are testing the water in the tank. We installed a omega water sensor in the output line of the membranes. That gives me a better idea of What is the water quality of the watermaker. I hope the attachment comes through. My install is similar to the one in the photo. I believe Bill took that photo. I use a "Total Dissolved Solids" meter from HM Digital. I believe it uses electrical resistivity to give a TDS measurement. I use the water drawn from the kitchen sink.
