Every SM came standard with two props, since having a spare was required for the Class Certification. A feathering prop was installed as the standard working prop on all boats, I believe, and a fixed prop was a spare.

The standard feathering prop on the earlier SM's was a MaxProp, an Italian made three blade feathering propeller. Gives 98% of the motoring performance of the AutoProp for 10% of the hassle with fouling. Performance on any prop goes down dramatically when fouled, but the Autoprop can be especially sensitive. Does anybody know what hull number the switch was made? (Our #160 is a MaxProp). Bill R: Do you know what modification was made to the C-drive to accommodate the Autoprop? I am guessing the output shaft was lengthened...
