Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] Amel propeller

On Kristy, the new MaxProp fit almost perfectly on the old shaft used for the AutoProp, There was less than a mil in a couple of spots that were trimmed on the MaxProp by a prop shop to make a perfect fit.

Bill K,

Yes, I know...the C Drive case was modified to allow for a AutoProp blade to pass by the C Drive when the blade is at 90 degrees (feathered).

If you place an AutoProp on an older model Amel SM, and start the engine, chances are you will destroy the AutoProp and the C Drive.

Is that a good enough explanation?😀

Every SM came standard with two props, since having a spare was required for the Class Certification.  A feathering prop was installed as the standard working prop on all boats, I believe, and a fixed prop was a spare.

The standard feathering prop on the earlier SM's was a MaxProp, an Italian made three blade feathering propeller.  Gives 98% of the motoring performance of the AutoProp for 10% of the hassle with fouling. Performance on any prop goes down dramatically when fouled, but the Autoprop can be especially sensitive.

Does anybody know what hull number the switch was made?  (Our #160 is a MaxProp).

Chris,

Be careful...early model Amel Super Maramus will not accommodate AutoProp. The C Drive was modified for an AutoProp to fit.

Hi Kent,

I have been searching through the forum about propellers and saw a recent post that you made regarding the Auto Prop.

The vessel (SM224) which we are in contract to purchase next month only has a fixed pitch prop and saw that you have/had a Auto Prop available for purchase, would you still have this?

If you still have it, are you still willing to sell it?

We are super excited about the boat, we are moving on late July as a family, we have a work list a mile long but I love a challenge

Still can't believe we are getting a Super Maramu!!!
