My SM does not have the off switch in front of the pin, and does have the little locking post that keeps the pin in.  I thought the off switch was added with the SM2K.

Thank you to all who responded.  I'm going to leave the adjustment as is and continue to use the cable grab method for inserting the pin.  It makes sense to me to keep the tension off the cables and on the pin.
