Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] Re: Black Smoke From Volvo Penta Engine Exhaust
Bill, I believe black smoke indicates lack of air for combustion . I had that happen for the first time this fall , I also had not been able to get above 1800 rpm. I discovered that I had sucked up a paper towel into the turbo , thus the low rpms and the lack of air. It was so totally clogged I don't know how it ran at all. I discovered a fair amount of carbon in the elbow , probably from lack of air , and that I tend to run at a lower rpm than is healthy . In the future I plan to run the engine a Volvo TMD 22a much harder to keep the carbon from building up. I had my turbo rebuilt for $385. ,half of what I paid before when I had a mechanic send it out for a rebuild a few years ago.toggle quoted messageShow quoted text

I forgot to mention that Pacific Cool is SM 141 built in 1995 and has 5,500 hours on the engine.
