Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] Propane switch

Pat,

The one I have, I have had a long time and before cruising.

Bill, I do not have a dedicated breaker, otherwise the power source would be obvious and easy to check . I will have to sort this out myself , and put this thread to bed. Just one last question , can you recommend a wire tracer or tracker , knowing you I am sure you have one.

Thanks,Pat SM #123

Pat, I am fairly certain that your boat originally came with a manual valve, only...and that the solenoid on your boat was added later by someone. I recall another SM close to your hull number that had no solenoid, only the manual valve. Although I am not 100% sure that boat was unchanged, I believe it was original. In any case, Eric's SM is definitely different from yours. Eric's SM and those later had a dedicated breaker on the 24V panel which had a red light next to it.

Eric, My problem is that I don't know what breaker feeds the switch , as I said I cannot trace the wires back , and yes ," No" meant the light does not come on. I think I will purchase a wire tracker and sort it out . Bill , I have a brown manual switch labeled Gaz for butane and a white switch with a red light recessed in the bulkhead. The backside of the switch in the lazzerette has a plastic cover over it. I have no way of knowing if it is Amel installed or not. It always worked , until it didn't.
Thanks ,

Hi Pat,
I assume, no, means that the red light does not go on.
Is the circuit breaker a single pole or double pole? 2 or 4 wires.
If it is a single pole you need to measure from the hot side of the breaker to the ground bus.
If it is a double pole you measure across the hot side of the breaker. I would be surprised if there is no DC going to the breaker.
Please let me know what you find.

Eric , I don't have a dedicated breaker for it , nor would expect to with its low amperage. Do you know what breaker it is connected to , I can not trace it as it is in a bundle of probably 40 wires. I would like to find the source to check the connection.
Thanks Again,
Pat SM#123

I forgot to say that if the red light does not go on . I would put a jumper across the circuit breaker and see if the red light goes on. If it does , then it is the circuit breaker
If the red light goes does go on without jumping the breaker, have someone go to the g as locker and have them put their hand on the solenoid. If they do not feel the solenoid actuate. It is the solenoid.

Hi Pat,
Does the red light go on when you turn on the switch?

I am trying to troubleshoot a problem . My propane switch failed to deliver propane , I assumed it was the solenoid , but I don't detect electric to the back of the switch. Above the galley there is what looks like a heat sink with GAS written next to it . Is this the source of electric to the switch? There is 24v in and out. Can someone tell me the power source, its hard to trace the wires , actually impossible, I  wish they were labeled.I think I need to buy a wire tracer , is there one recommended .
Thanks,
Pat SM#123
