We have just returned to UK from Caribbean after 4 years there. The Sargasso weed has been a big problem on the eastern coasts of all the islands, but not the west coasts where the main anchorages are.
However, when crossing it is most likely that you will meet large patches of Sargasso weed (40m x 40m) from halfway across.
This will affect things like wind vane rudders, towed water generators and fishing lines.
Amels don’t have a problem as the keels and rudders shed the weed easily.
