Re: Dessalator AC motor

Hi Bill and All,
My 220v low pressure Dessalator pump started leaking after 10 years. The pump started leaking at the shaft motor connection going into the pump and needed to be rebuilt, the stainless shaft from the electric motor going into the pump had rust groves. This meant that changing the seal was useless. The electric motor needed to be replaced.
I tried to get answers for 3 months from Dessalator agents and was fortunate to be passing Antibes and called in to see Nicolas at Dessalator.
He was very helpful, explained everything and made up all the fittings that I needed and even made up a high pressure hose that I wanted. Gave me a very good price, less than the Dessalator agents wanted. He supplied a newer low pressure pump which he says will not have the shaft corrode like the old pump as they have been made with better stainless steel when making the shaft. Nicolas also told me not to buy the membranes and store them as they have a shelf life and to only buy them when you are going to change them.
I will stay with Dessalator even though they don't take credit cards. In my opinion you can trust them with a bank transfer. I paid cash though and at that time had to pass over the motorway at Antibes junction twice navigating the picketing Yellow Jackets to get to the nearest ATM.
The warehouse at Antibes is small but well stocked and they do ship daily from there.

I agree. Nicolas Bouffartigue is very helpful...and remember he was not working for Dessalator when they faked the TDS quality sensor in the D160 control PCB.
Spectra is making a high capacity watermaker with an integrated and continuous TDS tester with a digital readout. BUT, you can adjust the readout up or down. Think about this. If you were buying a boat with this Spectra watermaker and relied on the integrated tester, what are you really relying on? Although Spectra has one of the best customer service departments of all watermaker companies, I really do not like the system.
I still believe the Dessalator watermaker to be one of the best available, but I admit that my experience with other brands is limited. Thankfully, all brands use basically the same membranes made by Filmtec.
