Hi JB, I have had a starting battery for each of the gen set and main engine in battery boxes at the rear of the engine room for 12 years. Replaced them once maybe 6 or 7 years ago. Ocean Pearl has an active life and has seldom been left sitting for long periods. I like the short cable run.

I had the replace all batteries after less than two years. One reason was the lack of care and bad monitoring from the yard (I assume that they were left discharged for too long). The other reason was the high temperature in the engine compartment. I was told that batteries do not like high temperatures. So we moved them out. We'll see how things evolve now.
