I replace the pre filters after I do the final fresh water rinse. Then one
quick flush to fill the filters.

Eric, generally speaking if I were to leave Challenge I'd make sure I had
real good fresh water flush. But before I flush I pull out the pre-filter
and clean the filter case put in a charcoal filter and go for it.
Hope things are well in the Carib.

I lost my membranes and end caps with pickling solution. I now use only
fresh water flush. The longest I leave the boat unattended in st Martin is 2
months. I believe Ian Jenkins has laid up his boat the same way in Uruguay
for the winter season.

I'm about to leave our SM on the hard for 5 months in a hot climate. There
are various posts on this site suggesting I should not use a
storage/pickling compound on the Dessalatorwatermaker as it is likely to
damage the seals and end caps but instead I should just flush the system
well with fresh water before leaving it. Has anyone experienced any problems
leaving the membranes like this?

Thanks for any thoughts.
