Eric, I do the same once we run flush the system we leave the fresh water flush water in the water maker under pressure. ( we close the valve with the high pressure pump off and the 'boats' fresh water pump running) The freezing point of water is lower when the water is under pressure..and it gets cold here in Annapolis... the heat from the battery charger and the water heater generally keep things warm in the engine room so long as keep the engine cover down...

Richard,

I replace the pre filters after I do the final fresh water rinse. Then one
quick flush to fill the filters.

Eric, generally speaking if I were to leave Challenge I'd make sure I had
real good fresh water flush. But before I flush I pull out the pre-filter
and clean the filter case put in a charcoal filter and go for it.
Hope things are well in the Carib.

I lost my membranes and end caps with pickling solution. I now use only
fresh water flush. The longest I leave the boat unattended in st Martin is 2
months. I believe Ian Jenkins has laid up his boat the same way in Uruguay
for the winter season.

I'm about to leave our SM on the hard for 5 months in a hot climate. There
are various posts on this site suggesting I should not use a
storage/pickling compound on the Dessalatorwatermake r as it is likely to
damage the seals and end caps but instead I should just flush the system
well with fresh water before leaving it. Has anyone experienced any problems
leaving the membranes like this?

Thanks for any thoughts.
