To close the loop on this, I opened up the starboard side of my oil cooler as per Amel's instructions and it was all clean.  It is the same cooler as in Bill's picture above and has absolutely no marking on it other than a bar code.  The thing looks pristine after 5 1/2 years so I think it's likely good for a while.
