For those interested.  Furuno is offering to update FW for free on the FA-50 (probably for other impacted units which have a FW fix available).  I know this isn't practical for a lot of folks but I thought of sharing for those folks who live closer.  Furuno USA is located in Vancouver, WA. you can drop in or ship your unit to them, they'll update it for free.
