Re: Recommended headsail inventory

The standard Amel sized genoa is the primary driver for the boat.  It fits well when poled out with the ballooner.

We carry a 90% yankee cut sail, but in 6 years have never really needed it. When we have used it we found it worked well beating, but was a very weak performer with wind aft of the beam. Since we try hard to sail downwind as much as possible, we found it marginally useful and haven’t hoisted it in 3 or 4 years. Changing headsails underway is possible, but not really practical for a short handed crew.

We do not carry any kind of spinnaker, and don’t miss it. Just more work than we want to deal with for the return. Others feel differently.

We spend much more time under genoa and mizzen than any other combination.
