I have a Sharki # 127 and I am surprised to hear that the roller furler is very heavy.  There is no doubt that the mast is substantial but the roller furler is a light weight tube about 1" in diameter aluminum. I unaware that there is an alternative system

I had heard that early Sharki roller furling masts were manufactured in Switzerland and were excessively heavy. Having just seen a Sharki with a massive mast and boom (mid 80's), does anyone know if there is a difference between early and later Sharki roller furling spars?
