Thank you ,Jean, and thank you Gary--it was reassuring to read your comments . We are a 220v 50 hz SM and that's what they sell here in Spain by way of electrical appliances, but I will read the handbook and see if the machine might work also with 60hz. Cheers, Ian and Judy, Pen Azen, SM 302, Spain

There are washing machines, and a full range of other appliances, that work at 50/60 Hz., the ones made in and for the Japanese market where the East side of the country is 50 Hz. and the West side 60 Hz. Unfortunately they are not 230 V., nor 120 V. but 100 V. Life is complicated….and so is electricity.

Ian and Judy:
I have digital voltmeter and digital frequency meters on my boat (hull #335 with Onan) and I can tell you that both the frequency and the voltage from the Onan are far closer to specifications than is any marina based shore power. Both are rock steady even under near maximum load. On the other hand the marina power, especially voltage, can vary all over the place. I think his concerns are unfounded.
Is there any chance there are new models of washing machines that will work with 50/60 hertz frequency? Almost all laptop computers will run from 50/60 hertz power with voltages from 110 to 230 volts and since all the electronics are DC and not AC supplied it would seem like a manufacturer could rather simply achieve that.
