Re: [Amel] Type of Fiberglass Resin Used By Amel

Repairs with new resin to old usually are not very strong whether it is
polyester or vinyl ester resin. For structural repairs especially, epoxy is not
only stronger, but will adhere far better than fiberglass resin.

Subject: [Amel] Type of Fiberglass Resin Used By Amel

Hi all:

Just a general question. Does anybody know what type of fiberglass resin Amel
used in building their Super Maramu boats? Is it polyester resin or vinyl ester
resin?

Secondly, when doing repairs, either structural or cosmetic, does it matter
which type of resin you use? Can you, for instance, use polyester resin to
repair a fiberglass structure that was laid up with vinyl ester resin?

Inquiring minds want to know.

Thanks,
