Re: Santorin ketch drawings
amelfango
Hello Christian,
We have a Santorin, No 54 Khamsin B, which is a sloop. We also received a number of arrangement drawings with it when we bought it just over a year ago. Unfortunately, I will be away for two weks so I hope you can wait. Please let me know if you want them and I will do my best to get them to you on my return on 30th July next. Best regards, Rob

Hi Christian,
I have a brochure of the santorin with the drawing arrangement of the ketch + sloop in it. I can picture it and send by email or copy and fax it if you want. Just give me your preference and where to send it. You can answer to _peps47@aol.com_ (mailto:peps47@aol.com) Georges Pellegrini Santorin 132

The Link 10 on my boat also failed. It is not worth repairing as a
new one is about $200.00 and it is easy to replace. The replacement unit has worked fine for the past two years. Check your wiring and try a reset of the unit. Regristration
Ivar Mylde <mylde@...>
Hi,
I hve bought AmelS.M. #53 in France and taken out of French register. I wish to register in Norway. Can any of the Amel owners advise me with the following: To register in Norway the Maritime Directorate need the gross ton figure messured after the International convention of 1969. In that case I need a line drawing. The gross ton figure Amel give is 30,14, but the French messure after another Convention. Do any of the owners hve a gross ton figure messured after 1969 Convention ? - or hve any solution to this problem. Fyi, in Norway they wl charge approx 1000 Euro to messure after a line drawings. The boat is in South France. Rgds Ivar

Vito,
I have two hatches that can be open on the sides of the aft cabin. This creates excellent ventilation. Amel has installed for me these two hatches that are the normal side hatches that are in the galley and in the aft bath. I do not believe that it is very difficult to install. Aft cabin deck (in bed part only)is free of wiring, you can make a hole in where you need. The only tip is to place a wood frame instead of foam between 2 GRP hides (external and internal deck side). Just scrape foam deep enough to be sure that scews or bolts fixing hatch will be into wooden frame. Think maybe to put 2 hatches in opposite opening (bow to and stern to), but avoid to put them in starboard to and port to. This is really less efficient. I'm happy to hear about the success with the Trojan Batteries. I'm
about to replace my 5 house batteries, Delco Voyagers, which are sealed, with deep cycle batteries. I keep hearing about the dangers of hydrogen gas build up with non-sealed batteries. Trojans have are wet batteries with caps. Can anyone tell me whether this is a significant risk? Any steps to minimize the risk? Re: Sonic Speed Transducer (Knot Meter)
noeliano244
We had difficulty with this type of indication for 2 years. After
having the experts check it out, we finally reread the manual. There are many wires in the control box inside the locker on the starboard side-under the catch all shelf. One was actually totally loose. Resecuring this solved the problem. Of course we did check all the other connections as well. But we did not realize that there are around 12 wires inside the box. Lots of margin for error, corrosion, and dislocation. Security
John and Anne on Bali Hai <hollamby@...>
Most people make sure thaat all their ground floor doors and windows
are locked over night. Most people are not so careful when sleeping on a boat and hatches and more importantly the companionway is left wide open. An Oyster was boarded by two West Indians in Marigot Bay,St Lucia, on 14 February 2004 whilst the owners were asleep. The luckless couple were beaten up, tied up and threatened with knives. Fortunately they had enough cash on board to satisfy the assailants who then left stealing the dinghy so they did not have to swim ashore. The police commented that one should be wary of "boat boys" going around on surf boards with a few bananas as they are not always selling bananas. The owners were severely traumatised by the experience but they were relatively lucky compared with another couple who were murdered in Antigua last year or so I am told. Hearing this tale reminds me of a Swiss couple I met in the Azores over ten years ago who were sleeping on their boat with all the hatches etc shut at night as they had been severely beaten and robbed in the Caribbean. They also were severely shaken and were returning to Europe to sell their boat. It also reminds me of a couple who were luckier in a marina in Puerto la Cruz in Venezuela. They had locked their dinghy on to their boat and put the keys on the chart table before retiring to bed. The next morning the keys and their dinghy were missing. The Amel companionway could easily be secured with a strong mesh dropin screen to sit on top of the wash board thus providing air with security. Similarly it would be easy to arrange some way in which the hatches cannot be opened far enough to permit access. The mesh screen could easily be made up by any local firm dealing in security. Sweet dreams, Anne and John Bali Hai, SM319

Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] Re: Hot cockpit
Erick MEJEAN <maramu@...>
Like any SM owner sailing in warm area (mediterranean) I have been suffering from the heat inside the SM as the aft cabin lacks proper ventilation. Things get even worst when motoring or sailing with a rough sea as we need to keep all the hatches closed. To overcome this problem I fixed on the two deck hatches as well as the aft cabin hatches some Nicro solar fan used to extract air.(the bigger model). The result is far above my initial expectation. It removes the hot air from inside and maintain an acceptable temperature within the boat. It kills the stuffy feeling that ones have during such conditions of navigation. You may wonder what will happen when a big wave land on the deck? I went through that and no need to say that I was expecting the worst. Surprisingly although it has happened to me several time in some pretty rough sea condition, not a single drop of water managed to make its way inside. No need to mention that I'm using the Hella fan as well (7 Units in total). Last but not the least I'm using a tailor made wind scoop which fits the aft cabin hatches. I use it while motoring as it is attached on to the boom and while mooring. Ever since we have to use a light polar blanket as there is always a bit of air breeze blowing right on the bed.
