Thanks for your inquiry. We will send you more info when we find a computer that we can upload to. We average 180 miles per day on ocean passages. Our best day is 196 miles. The boat is fastest downwind. Mr. Amel raced this particular boat across the Atlantic averaging 8.4 ks and came in 3rd over all in the Trans-Alizees. She is a 1985 model launched in late 1984. Good Morning:

I am considering purchasing a Mango. I would like to get some idea
how fast or slow they are under sail.
Can you tell me how many miles per day you average while making ocean
passages? Average wind strength on these passages?
Miles per day while beating?
WMiles per day while reaching?
Miles per day while running?

Thank you for your help.

I agree Alex

I would definatly not want just the autopilot as my only means of
steering. Do you know if the rod can be removed form the cable and be
repaired or replaced?

Thanks

Re: help with steering

Alejandro Paquin

My understanding is that, if your system is like the Maramu's, one
cable should be enough to steer the boat at least on a temporary
basis. It seems to me two cables is a redundant feature whichis part
of Amel's solid steering system.

[Amel Yacht Owners] !2 Volt Electric Motor for 1984 Mango

Anne and John Hollamby <hollamby@...>

Message text written by INTERNET:amelyachtowners@yahoogroups.com

Are you sure that the original motor cannot be repaired either by a
machinist or a rewinding specialist? We get too carried away in this throw
away society.
I severely damaged the cones and mainshaft on my Lofrans anchor winch
whilst in Croatia because I had failed to grease the cones regularly as
advised in the instructions. The British Agents did not have many of the
parts in stock but could get them rushed through in 5-6 weeks before
sending them on to me and the costs were horrendous. The Manager of the
Dubrovnic Bestsail charter company put me in touch with a local mechanic
who succeeded in dismantling it ( just about all the machine screws etc.
were seized solid after 3 1/2 years and had to be heat treated to free them
). This took about seven hours and he returned at 5pm the next day having
made new keyways in one cone and the mainshaft, cleaned up the distorted
mainshaft and made a new cone. He rebuilt the winch which is now good as
new and the cost was approx 300 euros.

Good luck, Anne and John, Bali Hai, SM 319

Hi Everyone,
We have a 1984 Mango, Number 42, with 12 volt electric furling on the
main mast and boom. Our boom motor is broken and can not be fixed.

Does anyone have a replacement motor, or any ideas as to how to get a
replacement motor? We would appreciate any suggestions.

Amel is working on this, but having trouble finding a motor that will
fit because of the age of our Mango. Thanks for your help.

Tempest, our 1985 Amel Mango, is for sale. She is currently in southern Spain, but we plan to cross to the Caribbean this winter. We think her excellent condition and many updates including hull paint, complete deck refurbishment (no more faux teak), new sails, new rigging, Ultra Suede upholstery, Glacier Bay refrigeration, Broadwater stove, Balmar generator, 20 gph water maker and many other amenities place her among the top Mangos. Will deliver almost anywhere. For details send an email to this address. Ph # in Spain +34 677119763. Tom McGuffy

David,
In addition to the information I gave you about
winterizing your
watermaker, I forgot to mention that if you lay your Amel up in
extreame
cold, you may also want to winterize all of your salt water
intakes. This is
easily done by getting a couple of gallons of anti-freeze ( the
enviomental
type). Turn off your salt water intake, and take off the top of
the filter.
I call this the sea chest. Start your engine, and when all the
water is
gone, pour in the anti-freeze. When you see the anti-freeze coming
out of
the exaust, shut off the engine. Do the same thing for the
generator. With
the sea chest full of anti-freeze turn on each toilet until the
anti-freeze
goes in the toilet and out the discharge. If your anchor wash is
connected
to the same sea chest, run that also. Make sure the anti-freeze is
not only
enviomental friendly but non corrosive for aluminum, and rubber,
i.e. your
impeller and toilet parts. If you run your charger all the time,
it
generates enough heat to keep the engine room a little warm, but I
allways
turn off my charger and main battery bank when I leave the boat
for any
time. The bildge pump is wired direct to the batteries, so cutting
off the
main switch doesn't effect it, and if you do a proper job storing
your Amel
you won't need a bildge pump anyhow. If you leave the switch on,
then the
computers, clocks, etc. will eventully run the batteries down. This
also can
tell you if your batteries are going bad. I can leave my boat for
months
with no charger on and when I get back the batteries are still at
100% . If
I come back and they're at 90% they're gone. Regards John

Sailboats Forum

Hi Patrick:

Thank you for the info on the new French speaking Amel Sailboats Forum.
I
wish you well. I wish I spoke French. It would make my relationship
with my
Amel and the Amel Factory staff easier for them and me. The Amel staff
would
agree!

We love our Amel and will not have anyother sailboat to cruise the
worlds
oceans as a couple. However after sailing our Amel for 33 months and
20,000
miles around the islands of the Med, Caribbean and Atlantic twice my
wife and I
have decided to spend more time alifornia with our grandchildren and
complete a
masters degree program through 2006. Then we will go back to sailing.
We have
put our Amel up for sale.

I would like to advertize my 2002 Amel Super Maramu hull #340 in your
new
Amel forum. I have been advertizing for just 3 months in Cruising
World, Sail
and Blue Water Cruising. Since you have invited ads into your Forum I
would like
you to put this ad in either French or English. Is there a cost to do
this?

My current Ad is as follows: 2002 model- 52' (16 meter) Amel Super
Maramu
2000. Pristine and loaded with 50,000 Amel factory extras. New cost to
day
would be over 600,000 Euros. We are asking 450,000 Euros. VAT not
paid.
Chesapeake location. American owner. Contact: sailslady@aol.com

The last out of water marine survey was done at Amel Guadeloupe in
1/204.
Yanmar 75 HP replaced in Hyrers 7/03 and has 655 hours. Genset has 1010
hours.
We encourage any interested party to see 2 or 3 new and used Amels THEN
see
Sailslady before buying any Amel. Our Amel is in better condition than
many new
Amels and most preused ones. All the wrinkles and problems have been
worked
out. If you know boats you know what I mean.

I would be able to show Sailslady in Baltimore between September 17 and
22
and again October 8 -13.

Again thank you for opening your Amel French language Forum to those of
us
that can not speak French.

Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] Birth of a French speaking Amel Sailboats Forum

sailslady@...

Hi Patrick:

Thank you for the info on the new French speaking Amel Sailboats Forum. I
wish you well. I wish I spoke French. It would make my relationship with my
Amel and the Amel Factory staff easier for them and me. The Amel staff would
agree!

We love our Amel and will not have anyother sailboat to cruise the worlds
oceans as a couple. However after sailing our Amel for 33 months and 20,000
miles around the islands of the Med, Caribbean and Atlantic twice my wife and I
have decided to spend more time alifornia with our grandchildren and complete a
masters degree program through 2006. Then we will go back to sailing. We have
put our Amel up for sale.

I would like to advertize my 2002 Amel Super Maramu hull #340 in your new
Amel forum. I have been advertizing for just 3 months in Cruising World, Sail
and Blue Water Cruising. Since you have invited ads into your Forum I would like
you to put this ad in either French or English. Is there a cost to do this?

My current Ad is as follows: 2002 model- 52' (16 meter) Amel Super Maramu
2000. Pristine and loaded with 50,000 Amel factory extras. New cost to day
would be over 600,000 Euros. We are asking 450,000 Euros. VAT not paid.
Chesapeake location. American owner. Contact: sailslady@aol.com

The last out of water marine survey was done at Amel Guadeloupe in 1/204.
Yanmar 75 HP replaced in Hyrers 7/03 and has 655 hours. Genset has 1010 hours.
We encourage any interested party to see 2 or 3 new and used Amels THEN see
Sailslady before buying any Amel. Our Amel is in better condition than many new
Amels and most preused ones. All the wrinkles and problems have been worked
out. If you know boats you know what I mean.

I would be able to show Sailslady in Baltimore between September 17 and 22
and again October 8 -13.

Again thank you for opening your Amel French language Forum to those of us
that can not speak French.
