Alex,

The more ice/frost, the worse the efficiency of the freezer. For quick defrost, turn it off, empty it and place a fan blowing on the cooling coils.

this has once happened to me. Have an engineer check
that you still
have refrigerant gas in the system. I lost mine through

Re: [Amel] Xantrex Link 10 Battery Monitor - What you really need to know

Bill & Judy Rouse <yahoogroups@...>

Alex,

If you do not know the Peukert exponent, I would use 1.13...it may not be correct, but now that you know how to reset, you will be OK.

Charge the batteries until there are almost no more amps going into the batteries, then reset as described. You may want to have the batteries load checked to determine their health.

I recently bought a great new tool for BeBe...a digital battery tester.

If you use batteries like we use batteries, you need more amps. We have 660 amps @ 24 volts...and sometimes it seems like we do not have enough. BTW, your fridge and freezer have an automatic cutoff when the voltage drops too low...could be your freezer problem.

Hope this helps,

Bill

Hi all,     We were planning to cruise Croatia this summer. We avoid marinas, but weddings and aged parents mean that we have to leave Pen Azen in marinas for regular returns to London ( best from Split).Having emailed half a dozen Croatian marinas their responses have been that they are full with charter boats and that  we cannot make reservations ahead of time as they cannot guarantee us a slot.
That prompts us to look at Corfu or Levkas as a base for summer cruising and possibly for a winter berth.
If anyone has experience of these two marinas ( or any nearby )  it would be good to hear. Also, if anyone has any suggestions of where else we might try in Croatia--they seem very efficient but we are getting the impression that cruising boats are not their first priority.

Hi everybody,
I was with Pantaenius till last year, for my Santorin about 1400Euros for Med. I asked for a discount if I was going to replace all rigging, they said that price was the same. I required an offer to Admiral, they said that in case I was going to replace the rigging, I had to pay 800Euros: I did it, also because I had to replace the rigging anyway, after 20 yrs.

we plan to visit the turkish coast this spring and autumn and are looking for a place to leave the boat in the water during July / August and then later for the winter on the land.  We will leave Croatia in April and we thought on selecting Leros as a base for july & august and for the winter and to discover the Turkish west-coast from there.

Another possibility would be to go direct to Turkey and leave Kali Mera there, - can you share some of your experiences with us? Which marinas would you recommend that are save and fair priced where we could leave the boat in the water in summer and on the land in the winter when we are at home,   are there other places than a marina where the boat can stay save?

Any experiences / recommendations with Leros?

Thank you

Thanks for your info on Ragusa.  Did that price include water and electricity?

I read you're looking into flight connections from Lefkas to UK - the info from Rink is correct, there are no flights out of Lefkas airport from about end of October to some time in April and they're mostly charter flights. From Lefkas you would have to take the bus to Athens which is about 5.5 hours and 34 Euros each one way.  Hope that helps.

Greek Cruising Tax - Cancelled?

I had a similar problem caused by failed hose clamps on the intake hose for the air conditioner pump.  The clamps had failed due to rusting and eventually gave way while running the AC at the dock.  Fortunately I was aboard and noticed the bilge pump running.  There was a LOT of water coming thru the intake hose which had come off the AC pump!  After replacing the hose clamps I no longer had air in the watermaker.  I've since replaced all the hose clamps on the boat with high quality Stainless ones.
Start at the Watermaker and work your way back to the manifold at the sea chest.  Anything attached to the manifold can be the source...engine raw water, genset raw water, AC pump, or Watermaker intake hoses.
I don't leave the AC running when I leave the boat any more.

Our Dessalator 60 is producing great water, but the flow meter is full of air bubbles....

Slowly wind up the pressure through the orange zone, lots of air...

Enter the green zone and the flow increses and the bubbles go away...for about 20 seconds and then they're back and don't go away.

If we continue to increase the pressure and enter the red zone, the bubbles go away, wind back into the green zone and no bubbles....for about 20 seconds and then they're back and don't go away.

Anyone had this experience ? Clues on what to do ?...seems to me the pump must be sucking in air somewhere, but where ?

Dear Herbert, Stephanie,Peter, Gerhard and Dimitris,

Thank you all for your responses. Very encouraging. Sounds as though we might be stuck for choice in Greece ! We are leaning towards using somewhere in the Ionian as a base and cruising Croatia from there.
Gerhard,  We can thoroughly recommend Ragusa as a safe place to leave a boat in the water over winter. This is our second winter there. It can blow from the northwest but there is not a hint of surge in the marina-- which I consider one of the most important features. It only opened in 2009 when it had just 8 yachts for the winter. That prompted the owners to put their prices way down--we paid 1200 euros last year and 1400 this year---for 7 months and it now has a lively crowd of yachts--few motorboats. There is a good crowd wintering aboard  , f rom all over northern Europe , the US, Aussies, Kiwis, etc  and always another yottie to keep an eye on your boat. Local yacht services are not sophisticated but that will grow and in any event Malta is only 60 miles away and you can get everything done there. There is hard standing ashore but it is exposed to the weather and seas braking against the seawall will dump a lot of salt on your boat. Also, they were not too keen on owners working on their hulls when ashore.
   Fair winds,

Hi Ian & Judy,

We are currently wintering in Lefkas marina for the second year.  It's very safe here, close to town and a reasonable price.  You can look them up on Google and contact Spiros Dallos, the Manager.

How is Ragusa?  We'd like to go there o r Licata one year as well.
