Re: Looking to buy a used Amel Super Maramu 53

Hi Christine,
We saw Hanalei while we were at Tortugal purchasing Leonore of Sark (Aloha), and were wondering when you will be heading back to your boat? My wife Liz flew to Guatemala today to start prepping our new boat for the trip North, and I should be joining her around mid April. We have a fairly high tide on 30 April, and we are intending to cross the bar at that time. Hope to meet you soon.

Hello,
The boat in question is Leonore of Sark, and soon to be renamed Aloha. My wife and I purchased her a few weeks ago, and will be moving her out of the Rio Dulce at the beginning of May bound for Brunswick, GA. We intend to do some outfitting in Georgia prior to starting a circumnavigation early next year.

Hi

When I left Rio Dulce (n June 2013 there was an unoccupied SM for sale docked at Tortugal marina. You could email Manuel at holatortugal@... to see whether she's still there.

It's in a safe hurricane hole and an easy day downriver to leave Guatemala and back in the Caribbean. You  can then make Belize in a day sail or Roatan overnight, or it's 700 miles down to Panama.

Renault Panda Whilte, 348. It was commonly used in the '90s. It is still available from the dealer or most auto-paint shops. It is flammable and not airline shippable. You can find sources in almost any country.

A couple years ago I painted my entire mast with awlgrip and it is a perfect match. My wife and I used  the roll and tip method and it looks as though it was sprayed. Not including prep time ,it took about a total of two  hours to do two coats.  Pat SM Shenanigans

Interesting with Awlgrip. Did you spry it on or did you use a brush?

We recently repainted our masts with Awlgrip, Eggshell in colour. This was almost a perfect match. You could tell where we dd touch ups as it is so shiny when compared to the old paint which had dulled over the years. We decided to paint the whole mizzen and do touch ups on the main. It is not noticeable unless you are looking for the difference.
We did the job ourselves which is a steep learning curve. We did the job in August 2013 and it looks great today.

Hello Terry and Diana,
The answer is buried somewhere in the website, from memory it was Renault number something. However if you remove the cover plate from the halyard hole at the base of the mast and give or send it to a professional paint mixer with computerised colour matching it will save a lot of messing around. I did this for touch up paint for our mast and again using a headlight trim to get matching paint for my fifty year old classic car.

Hi Bill,
Yes and agree.  Wish I knew what Joel knows about the Amel SM technical details too.
Your blog shows such an amazing journey aboard BeBe.  You mention about costs and have a line item for the costs of routine maintenance.  Do you also have breakdown list of each of those maintenance items and the respective costs; for both scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on BeBe?
Thanks for the help.
Best,

Robert,

Have you checked with Joel Potter <jfpottercys"at"att.net>?

He will know more than anyone about the better Super Maramus available. Also, I heard that Joel recently listed the 2nd to the last SM made by Amel. I think that it could be one of the best available.

Hope this helps you.

For what it is worth, Amel was able to find a replacement pumpout fitting cap (actually the whole fitting) after I sent them a close-up picture of my fitting.  Apparently Amel used several different fittings at different times during construction.  The replacement fitting came from Foresti & Suardi.  It is chromed brass. Artilcle number 192.C listed in the F&S catalogue as a "Brass toilet lid".

Hi Kent,

had a end knot which connected to a slot in the cover.

Hi, Ann-Sophie,
I'm unclear as to the mounting bracket.  Is it attached to the middle of the table so that it rotates?  Can it be locked in any position?  Can it be folded down out of the way, or must it be removed and stowed?

On another note, what is the U-bolt for that is attached to the line holder by the table bracket?

I'm also looking for some different arrangement for the cockpit table, anyone else have other ideas?
Steady as she goes.
Thanks,

We have mounted a Lagun table on the outside front of the rope-container below the mizzen mast. We choosed the large table and it works perfekt. It is always up.

You can see it on http://www.noa.se/ and choose english as language. Belive that you can buy it in USA as well.

I posted some pictures in the album Cockpit table, Extra. And you can see it in use, just finnished brakefast......

We are looking for more details on how the cockpit table on the Super Maramu 2000 that is mounted to the rear of the captains chair is constructed. The standard cockpit table that came with our SM (1997)  is too large for every day use and we are looking for an alternative.

Thanks in advance.
