Thanks Bill I think that is probably what is causing the problem. For some reason Volvo call these solenoids fuses which is a bit odd. Anyway I have two arriving in Hong Kong tomorrow from the uk so I will replace both stop and start solenoids on spec and see what happens.

Graham, I am sure you have thought about this, but have you checked or replaced the negative start solenoid? I believe it is normally open and closes while starting. Solenoids can be intermittently cause headaches.

We will certainly miss you, if you choose to no longer be part of the Amel Owners Group, and urge you to stay with us. Your contributions have been very much appreciated by me and I am sure, all of us.

Volvo TMD22a Intermittent electrical failure causing no start.
Graham Boyd
For some time I could not get my Volvo TMD22A to stop using the key. Not a problem as there is a mechanical stop. An electrician finally traced the problem to the 55 amp grounding fuse which had blown. Fuse replaced problem solved.? Not quite... I now have a much more serious issue where occasionally when one turns the start key there is no power at the start control panel and obviously the engine does not start. So far, this only seems to happen when the engine is hot after a long run. Leave it for half an hour to cool and power to the starter panel returns. I am about to replace both the start and stop resettable fuse relays in the black plastic electrical box on the front of the engine to see if that helps. Has anyone else experienced this problem? Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] New Dolphin Battery charger?
Paul LaFrance <pflafrance@...>
Alexandre We had to replace our 50 Amp charger and did it with a Dolphin. The problem with the new one was it was the same size as the 100Amp Dolphin and we had to mount it sideways. The job was easily done and the wires came out the side toward the bow. The new charger has similar settings to the 100Amp so you can adjust the charge according to the type of battery bank you have. Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] 50 AMP charger not charging crossing to Nassau

Good morning Bill,
toggle quoted messageShow quoted text
Finally had the time to look at the battery charger. I tested the Dirupter breakers it is ok. I checked all the fuse, swap them and they are ok. I have the following lights: Green to show it is ON (which by the way very slighty pulse) so could that be "Fuse Def" is RED The owner manual says: if the ON/OFF light blink (which doesn't completely in my case) the causes are: Electrical Connection out not good. Temperature sensor external not well connected. Temperature sensor external in open circuit Short circuit or overcharge outside. I don't know what to do... The Dirupter breakers will fail, but normally they just pop OFF when failing. I have not had the problem, but I know that there is a small bag of extra ceramic tube fuses and some spade-type fuses taped to the left side of the chargers on BeBe 387. In the following photo, I circled the ceramic tube fuse, because I believe it is most likely, but check the spade fuses as well. Also, check to see if the fan is working. In my experience, the fan quits working and the charger overheats causing either a fuse to blow, or something else to burn up. Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] Engine Room Temperature
Bill & Judy Rouse <yahoogroups@...>
Good idea Mark. Temperature tells us much in system's operation on our boats. For instance, I noticed a slight rise in engine room temperature when running the Onan one day. It seemed hotter to me than usual. With a quick check of the impeller, I found 3 blades gone. If I noticed the increase without a thermometer, then verified it with my laser thermometer...I am sure I would have noticed sooner with a alarm and/or an external digital thermometer. The question is where to mount? And great advice on the SSB. You should add photos and specs to the Amel Owners Group website in this album: https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/amelyachtowners/photos/albums/1826325527

Mark,
The temperature sensors you linked to are made to run on 12 VDC, yet you say you powered them off of the compressors. Do the compressors for the refrigerator/freezers run on 12 VDC or 24 VDC? Not on the boat to look at the manuals, but it seems to me their circuit breakers are on the 24 VDC panel.

Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] Re: Batteries overheating and charger or alternator over charging
Derick,
The low pass filter is connected to the Antenna Out at the SSB and the antenna cable leading to the antenna turner is connected to the low pass filter. You will need to make a short piece of antenna cable for the connection.
The wi-fi antenna is located on the bar between the backstays. There is a connection inside the lazerette and the PoE box is at the nav station with the computer. The SSB antenna cable runs behind the new wood panels I installed.
The computer is installed as so: http://www.creampuff.us/2013/11/geeky-stuff-part-two/

Sounds like good advice. I see the Low Pass Filter on-line. Just to be clear, you install the Low Pass Filter on the IslandTime WiFi antenna, not on the SSB antenna, correct? Where in the sequnce of Router to 5-foot cable to POE to 75-foot cable to Powered Antenna did you insert the Low Pass Filter? I am not much of an electronics person.
