Call your insurance company and have the information on his (the fellow who smacked you)insurance ready to give them. Get the damage inspected and described by a AMEL knowledgeable marine surveyor. Knowledgeable is the key word here. If the surveyor is not extremely familiar with AMEL boats, he will miss the important details. The closest one to you is Paul Anstey 954 270 1940 panstey@... . Paul has surveyed more Amel boats in North America than everyone else combined. He also was a fiberglass boat builder and knows what to look for. A survey is essential to have the platform to enable proper repairs to be done and a reference to depend on if things don't go according to plans and promises. I have been involved in many of these circumstances with my clients and I can tell you that I'm sorry for you and GET EVERY PROMISE/ PROPOSAL IN WRITING. Sorry to be so cynical but experience has been a cruel teacher. Paul is not my brother in law and I make nothing for the referral other than the knowledge you will be well taken care of. Good luck. Be thorough. Assume nothing. Joel F. Potter 954 812 2485 iPhone

Hit by another boat...
Alexandre Uster von Baar
Dear Amel Owners,
This morning 9.30 was hit by another boat: Felt like a pretty violent impact. Bow Pulpit bent Port navigation light (possibly electric wire cut in the stanchion or just broken bulb) My main concern is possible damages to the connection of the forestay and electric unfurling/furling motor (which was bent 40 degree). I posted some pictures on: http://nikimat.com/accident.html Owner was very sorry and came back to apologize, very nice person. First time for me to have a boating accident. Have no idea how to handle this, what to look for. Would hate to miss a damage then later have problems. So any advice is welcome! This is actually the 3rd time in 5 week that a boat hit me at this marina. On the bright side, yesterday installed new Dolphin 40 Amp Battery Charger and new Engine room Blower, both work perfectly! Thanks in advance for your help... Sincerely Alexandre SM2K #289 NIKIMAT Bay Street Marina, Nassau, New Providence, The Bahamas

Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] Borel exhaust temp monitors.
ESTELLER
Hi
VETUS has a device to control the haust temperature : http://www.vetus.com/exhaust-systems/exhaust-instruments.html I project to use it in ORION, my AMEL 54, the sensor beeing special to VETUS waterlock. I think that beeing directly in the water flow it is a good solution. José ORION

Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] Bow thruster Linear Actuator
Andrew & Kate Lamb
I think it is the motor as I have disconnected the motor from the control unit – I ran 24 volts directly to it via a 10amp circuit breaker. On trying this way it makes a little noise and movement almost immediately followed by the circuit breaker blowing.
Also immediately after this first occurred the motor was very hot and the cabin smelt of electrical burning.
Thanks
Andrew

Hi please disregard the previous email I hit the send button before I read the email. Ok regarding your bow thruster did the motor that drives it up-and-down burnout or perhaps one of the limit switches that control the motion or the switch at the joy stick. Bow thruster Linear Actuator
Andrew & Kate Lamb
Has anybody had there bow thruster linear actuator burn out – this happened to us this morning with the bow thruster stuck in the down position – I removed it and managed to get the bow thruster up with the aid of a handy billy. Is this something that can be stripped and repaired or is it the case of replacing the whole unit – I think the sensor that the detects that it is full extended must have failed.
Thanks
Andrew

Re: To all Amel 54's - Lower Shrouds Main Mast
faial_l <no_reply@...>
Bob, Unfortunately the storm was not over which lead to the mast morphing into a S shape, this is usual before complete failure of a mast. Luckily this did not occur and was able to straighten it out when the rigger arrived with replacement shrouds, it would hold for the second half of the Pacific crossing but at a snails pace. Once the repairs was done this was when the rigger had a look at the current setup and he believed that certain shrouds, and turnbuckles were not sufficient for the potential forces exerted from the mast and sail size.

Faial,
I do not understand what you mean by your mast "morphing" Can you detail what happened to cause you to need to replace your mast? Do you know what might of been done to prevent the problem? Thanks, Bob Gallivant Amel 54 #31 Currently on the hard in Puerto Rico Sent from a mobile device

Well good luck with the fit of the new mast. Are you going for 12mm or 10mm on the lower shrouds for the mainmast?

Peter, As of yet the bills have to be totaled, the mast is still being prepared after which it will have to be shipped! Best is to upgrade when you see it opportune! Cheers, Faial

Hello Pat,

There is indeed a twin engine option; it comes with 2 sensor collars. One less hole at the 24 V panel. I will also get the water alarm sensor. Thanks for the help. How do you manage to consult past emails??? I am frustrated. Jean-Pierre

You had to replace the mast!!! What a horrific problem - just in case I need to save up approximately what did that cost with new standing rigging? Thank you for the advice.
