Hello Herbert,

Not averse to that but from my readings, CV is not very interesting…. but Chantal is very interested by going to the CV… stay tuned. (Compromise….) :-)

We can avoid CV and achieve good speed by tracking 235 for a few days then heading 270 directly to the Caribbean.  Leaving Canaries about 1 week after ARC… they go too early in my opinion.

Eleuthera is in refit in Turkey; I understand yours is also being modernised…?  Where?

I see your email and will send you a quick personal contact.

Cheers,

Thanks Craig , at the end of the week I buy the right keys and began to do the job. Do you know what keys should I use to hold the final af the shrouds and around the swivels (turnbuckles)? I've seen that there is not decimal keys, are in inches??? The rigging is the original Amel. I've also seen various SM wieth te head of the mast bent forward.....regards. Enio

Re: Offshore Health Insurance

Naomi Tabata <naomitabata@...>

Hi Will,

Absolutely agree with a previous note that it depends on your situation and level of comfort. For our three year cruise, we chose to use DAN (diversalertnetwork.org), which has a plan that provides emergency transportation to the nearest facility where you can receive excellent care. That may not be your home country. They do not pay for the care when you get there, and they will not pay to return you to your boat after treatment. You do not need to be a diver to purchase coverage. However, the annual premium is very reasonable, and we felt it was wonderful peace of mind in the event of a major incident/accident. We are relatively young and healthy, and were travelling in the south pacific where health care costs were minimal (e.g. USD$12 for a gastro scope in the Marshall Islands). Most importantly, we know of people who were very well taken care of by this company when they had a need to call on their services.

Cheers,
Naomi

Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] Re: Offshore Health Insurance

Craig Briggs

Thanks Drew and Liz for your posts - great stuff.  Another quick addendem - instead of Medicare A&B, I've got Medicare Part C,  aka a Medicare Advantage Plan.  For out-of-country expenses I initially pay out-of-pocket but submit the bills for reimbursement after the fact and the insurance company pays up to the normal Medicare amounts.  Plans and premiums vary (mine is no added premium over normal Medicare) and this is likely available in some Medigap policies, although those are added cost.  Shop carefully.

And, while anectdotal evidence in these insurance discussions will always yield good and bad accounts, fwiw, we had excellent experience with IMG for the first 10 years of cruising.  As we aged their rates got too high so when I went on Medicare Advantage and we switched Katherine to Blue Cross (still pricey).

Cheers,
Craig Briggs,  SN#68 Sangaris

Re: Main mast profile

Craig Briggs

Hi Enio,
While your pictures do look like the mast is pulled back at the upper spreaders, I'm sure you'll find that it is a combination of the lowers holding the mast too far aft and/or the headstay and backstay holding the top of the mast too far forward. (There being no stays exerting fore and aft force at the upper spreaders.)

Re-tune by first totally easing the mizzen backstays so the triactic is slack.  Then slacken the main lowers and the main headstay and backstay. You can leave the intermediates as is.  Next, get the mast in column fore and aft by tightening the head and back stays.  Then tighten the lowers, keeping it in column.  Check side-to-side as well as fore and aft as you tune.

Before re-tensioning the mizzen backs, loosen the mizzen lowers, get it in column with the backs and finally adjust the lowers.

As a short cut, you might just try to get it back in column by adjusting the lowers, taking up on the forwards and easing the afts.

Cheers,
Craig - SN#68 Sangaris
