Hi all,

I'm wanting to print a few T-shirts with the side profile drawing of the Super Maramu. My copy from the internet is very low resolution.
Does anybody have a good drawing they could send me? My email is gashman@...

Also I'm often in LA, NY and SFO. Any possibilities for a visiting Amel owner to help out as crew? Like wise anybody in Hong Kong that would like to do some sailing please contact me.

Many thx - very kind of you.

I've got the blue print pics in the original owners brochure- wondered if anyone had a high quality JPEG etc

I've just sailed Jovic from Langkawi to Hong Kong to live on with many exciting tales along the way. 11pm at night four guys wearing balaclavas trying to board us for example a day south of Penang...

Im just a travelling airline pilot looking for some day sailing on layovers!  I'd love to do longer trips but work is in the way at the moment..

I have drawings on my boat that I could photograph at higher resolution...maybe 7 megapixels?  The drawings are blueprint quality and folded, so would need some touching up to be adequate for graphics.  I've been toying with this idea for a while, too.  I will be back on the boat in a few weeks and will get it done then if someone else doesn't have it done already.

Are you a seasoned sailor or Amel owner?  Are you new to these boats and want some experience offshore?  If you get to the East Coast, I'll be sailing from Jacksonville, FL to Key West in Marcs, then to Turks & Caicos, then up thru the Bahamas to Maine for July and August, then back down the coast and to the Western Caribbean.  I will be looking for crew for some of the passages and would be happy for you to come along.

Happy sailing.  ~~~~~_/)~~~~~~~

Subject: [Amel Yacht Owners] Pumps

In 2011 my freshwater pump failed I had plenty of spares and rebuilt it seven times neither Amel nor AMFA were remotely interested in trying to help solve the problem. I had no freshwater water pump for six weeks so the manual emergency pump in the galley proved very useful.

I couldn't get a 24volt Jabsco in Brazil. I contacted Whale and they shipped me a new experimental demand 24 volt fresh water pump to try. It failed in 45 minutes, I rang them and asked them could I strip it - "go ahead" the micro switch had failed. They put their international sales director on the phone he promised me that he would source stronger switches in USA and ship them. The switches turned up, the pump worked and has continued to work ever since with stronger pressure and much quieter running than the original freshwater pump.

It would now have over three years i.e. one thousand days of daily use and I have never had to look at it.

An unexpected bonus was a little more room in the engine room where the old pump used to be in which I store a 5 gallon oil drum. The new one is mounted on the bulkhead.

When the bilge pump joker valves needed replaced again in 2012 I removed the original pump and replaced it with a Whale gulper.  It came with a multi sized connector for the discharge pipes and took about 45 minutes to fit,I used the original switching. It emptied the bilge more quickly and quietly and again I have never touched it since.

Both pumps use less electricity than the originals.

I  visited the Whale factory to thank them and they couldn't quite grasp why I bothered for them this was normal service.

I have no connections or involvement with Whale or their employees but as far as their products are concerned my mind was made up years ago.

You be your own judge.

Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] Bilge pump recommendation - AMFA out of business?

Eric Freedman

I have to agree with you about the complexity of the pumps used for fresh water, bilge, hi pressure fresh water wash, and anchor wash.

They all can be replaced by much simpler pumps. The pumps on Kimberlite were well built but had too many working parts, kind of like a Rube Goldberg if you have heard of him / it.

Depends on the hoses you have. I think I had to adapt the top hose only and remember doing it by simply inserting a 1" section of smaller hose into it. The foot strainer that comes with it is too small, but the one I listed attaches without modification or you could use the original foot strainer.  It is a really easy project.  The intake and exit hoses simply clamp on, there are no screw in adapters or any nonsense like that.  The barbs on the head of the pump are heavily reinforced so you can tighten down without cracking them.

On my previous pump and on this one, the intake hose and strainer liked to move around which is solved by using a heavy duty intake hose.   The replacement has everything in it....one way joker valve, flap valves, barbs, and is very easy to simply clamp onto the pump body and very inexpensive.  Also, the pump integrated flexible mounting attachment so there is no vibration.

My comments on the original may have been a bit harsh, but in my opinion it is an expensive, difficult to maintain, and fickle piece of gear.

Dear Alexander,

As above,it is a simple small demand pump. When I first saw it I didn't believe it could work. Turn on the tap and the water flows smoothly with plenty of volume for showers and taps.

You can use plastic push fittings to install it and change it out in a few minutes if required.

Dear Alexandre,
The freshwater pump that I have is a prototype of
what I believe to be the current Whale Watermaster automatic
3 gallons per minute, part no FW1225.
The bilge pump is the Gulper 320
part no BP 2054.
There are support lines directly to
the factory and the people who you talk to are the young
engineers who actually design and develop the
pumps.

Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] Pumps

seafeverofcuan@...

Dear Alexandre,
The freshwater pump that I have is a prototype of what I believe to be the current Whale Watermaster automatic 3 gallons per minute, part no FW1225.

The bilge pump is the Gulper 320 part no BP 2054.

There are support lines directly to the factory and the people who you talk to are the young engineers who actually design and develop the pumps.

Good afternoon Trevor,

Thank you for your feedback.
First of all, hope you have a great new year!

I was afraid to read that neither Amel nor AMFA were interested in solving the problem…
I email Amel and Reya and no answer yet… will call later on.

Which Whale (fresh water) pump model do you have?
My A66B is working perfectly, but just like you, I realize this is something I use several times per day…
So I want a spare.

Is the Whale Gulper a Diaphragm pump?

Thanks in advance, sincerely, Alexandre

In 2011 my freshwater pump failed I
had plenty of spares and rebuilt it seven times neither Amel
nor AMFA were remotely interested in trying to help solve
the problem. I had no freshwater water pump for six weeks so
the manual emergency pump in the galley proved very
useful.I couldn't get a 24volt
Jabsco in Brazil. I contacted Whale and they shipped me a
new experimental demand 24 volt fresh water pump to try. It
failed in 45 minutes, I rang them and asked them could I
strip it - "go ahead" the micro switch had failed.
They put their international sales director on the phone he
promised me that he would source stronger switches in USA
and ship them. The switches turned up, the
pump worked and has continued to work ever since with
stronger pressure and much quieter running than the original
freshwater pump.It would now have over
three years i.e. one thousand days of daily use and I have
never had to look at it.An unexpected
bonus was a little more room in the engine room where the
old pump used to be in which I store a 5 gallon oil drum.
The new one is mounted on the
bulkhead.When the bilge pump joker
valves needed replaced again in 2012 I removed the original
pump and replaced it with a Whale gulper.  It came with a
multi sized connector for the discharge pipes and took about
45 minutes to fit,I used the original switching. It emptied
the bilge more quickly and quietly and again I have never
touched it since. Both pumps use less
electricity than the originals.I
visited the Whale factory to thank them and they
couldn't quite grasp why I bothered for them this was
normal service.I have no connections or
involvement with Whale or their employees but as far as
their products are concerned my mind was made up years
ago.You be your own

Hi Kent,

I confirm AMEL used aluminum rivets with steel core pins. The steel core pin purpose is only to draw the aluminum back and set the rivet. Some steel pins don't stay and may be found dropped inside the foil. They are not supposed to give any additional strength to the rivets. For the pins which stay in the rivets, the silicone filler will prevent rust from developping (especially at the breaking spot).

Best regards.

Bon Jour Olivier,
I hate to keep beating this horse, but I'm still not certain about the rivets for connecting the forestay foil to the furler.

You said to use silicone to prevent salt water from getting to the steel core of the rivets.  I have found all-aluminum rivets with a shear strength of 600 lbs, or aluminum rivets with a steel core of 700 lbs.  I assume from your email that Amel uses the aluminum rivets with the steel core.  Can you confirm one last time?

Thanks again for helping us out.  I hope one day that I will get to meet you and treat you to dinner and a bottle of wine....

Bonne Annee!
