Re: Original Rotary Drive with New Autopilot
jjjk12s@...
Craig,
I expect Andy is referring to the NECO drive from the Maramu so your Raymarine is probably a lot simpler to connect.
Andy,
I have thought about the same change but the NECO is still going so I haven't put anew computer on yet but would really like to connect the Simrad (same as the BandG). I see you seem to being saying the AC12N is the easiest unit to use but is its current capacity enough? Any help you can give with the wiring changes needed on the drive unit would be fantastic!
If don't have a proper understanding but sort of figure the static magnetic field in the motor is produced by a shunt and a series coil. The problem comes with reversing the direction as the current needs to be reversed on the series coil which is in series with the armature. So the motor wiring in the box has to be changed so that when the opposite rotation direction is needed the armature stays the same polarity but the series coil is reversed. This is getting way over my head and I may have got it all wrong.
The other thing I'm not sure about, is that modern computers can activate either clutch or solenoid but some models only do one (maybe bigger ones designed mainly for hydraulic steering systems?). Which one is needed for the NECO or are both?
Any more clarity you can give would be great because I have just got confused and don't have a suitable electrical engineer to help.
Regards John, Maramu #91

Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] Eumenia Mini 5500 Dishwasher Parts
svsummerlove@...
Hi Leo,
If you go to https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/amelyachtowners/files/EUMENIA/ and download ET_GS 5005_5500.pdf, (Eudora Soba Geschirrspuler 5005/5500), you'll find on Seite 4 and Seite 5 (Tafel 2), "Pos in Tafel" 8 is a Programmt.Eaton M 5500 with ArtikelNr 034015. That's where I found that part number, but I have no idea if that's how it's still identified or listed on their website. It could be that timer is no longer made and the replacement has a different part number. Those same pages also show a different program timer (Programmt. Siemens Mini 5005, with ArtikelNr 034000). What's odd is that the serial number on my dishwasher is 5.384.754, which is higher than any of the serial numbers listed on that pdf. It could be that this pdf is an older one for earlier vintage dishwashers. The part number and info stamped on my program timer is: EC 4692.01 A 01 220/240V 50HZ T.70 6-00-36. Please let me know what they tell you on Monday, but also please don't spend a lot of your own time trying to track this down for me. I've spent a lot of time already and there's no guarantee the part even exists any longer. Many thanks, Steve Constantine s/v Summer Love SMM #340

Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] Anchor Wash Pump Capacity

Hi Steve,

My problem was the PO had removed the anchor wash pump; I knew this when I bought the boat. I tried to procure a pump to no avail. Then as we plan a circumnavigation and my take was to modernize the things which could be done without moving away from the Amel philosophy, it became logical to add a connection to the boat’s fresh water system. Only meant a T fitting and a shut off valve after the union. Works quite well… While I was at it, we ran another fresh water line to the forward part of the port lazarette and fitted a bayonet fitting; fresh water deck wash too :-) BASTA… all done. Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] Anchor Wash Pump Capacity
svsummerlove@...
Hi Jean-Pierre,
Now that's an excellent idea. It would have the added advantage of washing salt water off the chain too. I'm presuming all that would be required is a check valve into the existing anchor wash system to prevent contamination of the drinking water supply. Is there anything else you included in the conversion, or any potential problems you ran into? Thanks, Steve Constantine s/v Summer Love SMM #340

Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] Anchor Wash Pump Capacity
Germain Jean-Pierre <jgermain@...>
Hi Steve,
I had the same problem and solved it by piping a fresh water line directly to the anchor wash nozzle. Use the normal fresh water pump. Also took the opportunity to add a “fresh water”deck wash outlet in the cockpit. GL. Jean-Pierre Germain SY Eleuthera, SM 007

Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] Anchor Wash Pump Capacity
svsummerlove@...
Hi Bill,
Yes, I agree, it's a great pump, although mine too has had a chronic leaking problem since new. Unfortunately, due to not being used for several years, it has seized up from its own leaks. Where we've been in the Caribbean with mostly sand and coral, it's rare to have enough mud on the chain to need it, and it didn't make much sense to wash salt water off the chain using salt water. I can't tell yet if it's the pump or the motor that has seized. I removed it, but the stainless steel studs on the rubber mounting bobbins are so rusted from the pump leak, that I can't get them free from the pump base. There's a recommended pump and motor rebuild place here in Ft Lauderdale, and I have a new "rebuild kit" which is essentially just seals and valves. Before I go down the rat hole of spending a lot of money to find out it will cost more to rebuild than replace, I may be better off just buying a new one. I just want to make sure that if I do, it has the capacity to do the job before I buy it. I forgot to ask on my first post, if anyone knows what amperage the existing pump motor draws, so I can tell if I will need to increase the size of the wiring with a new pump. Thanks, Steve Constantine s/v Summer Love SMM #340

Re: Original Rotary Drive with New Autopilot
Hi Andy,
I'm about to install the AC42N using a Raymarine Type II 12v drive - (same as the original). Your post suggests that won't work, although B&G's US system's engineer did the specs for my order. I am quite sure the only difference between the AC12N and AC42N, other than the current limits, is the AC12N allows for switching a hydraulic solenoid and the AC42N does not - is that what you needed the extra relay for? Both units use pulse code modulation to vary the motor speed (turn rate) in accordance with their steering algorithms - that is, they are variable speed, not two speed units. What type of drive do you have? Is it 12v or 24v? And what is that add-on relay doing? Guess I'm not really understanding what the problem was - don't want to get into same thing myself, so any help would be appreciated. (Btw, I couldn't find your picture - where is it?) Thank you for your kind offer to contact them on my behalf. Even if they no longer sell the part, but can provide another source that does sell that Eaton product would be very helpful. Hi Bill,
Thanks for your response, and thanks even more for all of the docs and photos you have uploaded over the years. I followed them faithfully to remove the dishwasher, troubleshoot the problem, and identify the parts. What would probably have taken me days, and that's assuming I didn't break anything doing it blind, was accomplished in hours thanks to your info and guidance. When did you order the heating element? Was it recently or some time back? The email address you used, ersatzteile"at"http://schabauer-service.at, is the same one I used, but got no response (repeatedly). I used Google translate to translate my English into German. I have no knowledge of German, so I have no way of knowing if what I wrote made sense, but it's the same method I used in April and May of 2012 when I successfully ordered parts the last time, and they understood it well enough then. ...And that included communicating back and forth with bank wire transfer info and shipping details. I agree that having a fluent German speaker act on my behalf is an ideal option, and I'm going to take Leo up on his kind offer to contact them. Thanks, Steve Constantine s/v Summer Love SMM #340

Steve, it is a really good pump and Amel had/has rebuild kits. A contact for the pump manufacture is F.E.I.T Pompe feitpompe"at"libero.it The pump does not have a pressure cut off switch, so if the line gets blocked it will through the breaker in the engine room. Bill BeBe 387

Steve, this winter I trey to change the timer and some other parts.
After calling Amel, factory etc . . . NO Parts are available !
EUMEA in Australia confirm me that no parts are available and the different parts are no more produce . . . So I am actually making a new timer with a Microchip board that I am testing next month. This work can be reused by any person of this group for free after my test (end of may). I am on Cottonbay middle of may, so I cannot yet send photos of the rebuilt Mini 5500 ... Eumenia Mini 5500 Dishwasher Parts

Does anyone know where to buy parts for the Eumenia Mini 5500 dishwashers?
I've bought parts in the past from this email address in Austria (ersatzteile@...), but I've made several attempts to contact them with no response. I don't get an "undeliverable" message, just no response. I found a yacht dealer in NZ (Challenge Yachts) who sold new 5500 dishwashers for a while, but no parts. They told me they are out of stock for new ones, and have no plans to obtain any more. They gave me the last source they'd had (krystkova.jana@...), but I get no response from that address either. I even tried to contact Eaton in the UK, who made the part originally, but got no response from them either. Has anyone had better luck than I have? Anchor Wash Pump Capacity

Does anyone know the GPM flow capacity and psi ratings for the anchor wash pump on an SM? The capacity plate info on mine is no longer legible. I'm trying to replace it, and want to make sure to do so with one that has enough capacity to at least match the old one.
If anyone has successfully replaced theirs, which manufacturer and model pump did you use? Thanks, Steve Constantine s/v Summer Love Hull# 340

Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] Vetus coupling
seafeverofcuan@...
Bill, if you look up"replacing rubber bushes in vetus unit on engine output shaft"
posted by Eutikia on Thursday 5th April 2012 you will see an attached posting from Danny on Ocean Pearl. Danny has written a very detailed explanation of what is involved in replacing the bushes in the coupler. The gearboxes normally fitted to the Yanmar 100 HP are Hurth ZF25 2.8R which would would be different to whatever was fitted originally to your boat, as I guess it had a Volvo TMD 22 engine. You current gearbox may be different due to the 110HP Yanmar. The Vetus coupler is a standard part and I would think that Bill Rouse will likely have the part number. I would be well worth checking the condition of the gearbox seawater cooled heat exchanger and gear box fluid, as there will have been a lot of heat generated during the period of vibration.
