Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] Anchor Wash Pump Capacity

svsummerlove@...

Hi Bill,

Yes, I agree, it's a great pump, although mine too has had a chronic leaking problem since new.  Unfortunately, due to not being used for several years, it has seized up from its own leaks.  Where we've been in the Caribbean with mostly sand and coral, it's rare to have enough mud on the chain to need it, and it didn't make much sense to wash salt water off the chain using salt water.

I can't tell yet if it's the pump or the motor that has seized. I removed it, but the stainless steel studs on the rubber mounting bobbins are so rusted from the pump leak, that I can't get them free from the pump base.  There's a recommended pump and motor rebuild place here in Ft Lauderdale, and I have a new "rebuild kit" which is essentially just seals and valves.  Before I go down the rat hole of spending a lot of money to find out it will cost more to rebuild than replace, I may be better off just buying a new one.  I just want to make sure that if I do, it has the capacity to do the job before I buy it.

I forgot to ask on my first post, if anyone knows what amperage the existing pump motor draws, so I can tell if I will need to increase the size of the wiring with a new pump.

Thanks,

Steve Constantine

Re: Original Rotary Drive with New Autopilot

Craig Briggs

Hi Andy,
I'm about to install the AC42N using a Raymarine Type II 12v drive - (same as the original). Your post suggests that won't work, although B&G's US system's engineer did the specs for my order.
I am quite sure the only difference between the AC12N and AC42N, other than the current limits, is the AC12N allows for switching a hydraulic solenoid and the AC42N does not - is that what you needed the extra relay for? Both units use pulse code modulation to vary the motor speed (turn rate) in accordance with their steering algorithms - that is, they are variable speed,  not two speed units.
What type of drive do you have? Is it 12v or 24v?  And what is that add-on relay doing? Guess I'm not really understanding what the problem was - don't want to get into same thing myself, so any help would be appreciated. (Btw, I couldn't find your picture - where is it?)
Cheers,
Craig - SN#68 Sangaris

Leo,

Thank you for your kind offer to contact them on my behalf.  Even if they no longer sell the part, but can provide another source that does sell that Eaton product would be very helpful.

This is what I've sent so far using Google Translate.  It could be that it doesn't make sense in German and they didn't know what I was asking.  The first email to them on Feb 11th had attached photos of the part and the dishwasher identification plate/ serial number:

Ich habe eine Teilenummer, die für den Teil Ich fragte nach auf den untenstehenden Einheit sein kann, gefunden. Ist Eudora Teilenummer 034.015 das richtige Teil? Wenn dem so ist, müssen Sie es zur Verfügung haben und wie viel wird es kosten?

Schönen Dank,

Hi Bill,

Thanks for your response, and thanks even more for all of the docs and photos you have uploaded over the years.  I followed them faithfully to remove the dishwasher, troubleshoot the problem, and identify the parts.  What would probably have taken me days, and that's assuming I didn't break anything doing it blind, was accomplished in hours thanks to your info and guidance.

When did you order the heating element?  Was it recently or some time back?

The email address you used, ersatzteile"at"http://schabauer-service.at, is the same one I used, but got no response (repeatedly).  I used Google translate to translate my English into German. I have no knowledge of German, so I have no way of knowing if what I wrote made sense, but it's the same method I used in April and May of 2012 when I successfully ordered parts the last time, and they understood it well enough then. ...And that included communicating back and forth with bank wire transfer info and shipping details.

I agree that having a fluent German speaker act on my behalf is an ideal option, and I'm going to take Leo up on his kind offer to contact them.

Thanks,

The Eudora GS5005 is the same dishwasher, you may have some luck searching for this brand.Go to the files section and download the two files (here: https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/amelyachtowners/files/EUMENIA/),especially BDA GS Mini5500_026469.pdf because it will give you contact information for Eudora.I emailed, in English, vertrieb"at"eudora.at for this part, but never got a response, and gave up with that contact because I did get a response from ersatzteile"at"schabauer-service.at

I paid approximately 100 euro to have this part shipped to the US and a visitor from the US brought it to me in Turkey where I installed it. It was relatively easy to install.

You might try the phone numbers above. When I emailed him in English, I got no response. There was an Amel owner at the marina who emailed in in German, and he responded.

Also, See Photos at:

I think if you had a German speaking person call the number above, you might have success.

I hope this helps you get the part.

Steve, it is a really good pump and Amel had/has rebuild kits.

A contact for the pump manufacture is F.E.I.T Pompe feitpompe"at"libero.it

The pump does not have a pressure cut off switch, so if the line gets blocked it will through the breaker in the engine room.

Re: Original Rotary Drive with New Autopilot

Hi Charles,
thanks for your feedback.
We installed a B&G system using Triton and Zeus range.
We choose the Triton Pilot controller computer with the High current add on pack ( AC42N computer) - we had difficulty marrying he systems.
We now know that the computer is for a two speed rotary drive , however the old unit we have is only one speed, hence calibration always failed. We solved this by adding an additional relay.
In retrospect, we should have chosen the LOW current pack computer pack - which only has a single speed - the same as the original rotary drive.
If you can, I have been advised to keep the original rotary drive, as they are bullet proof,  "they don't make em like that anymore."

Bill, if you look up"replacing rubber bushes in vetus unit on engine output shaft"
posted by Eutikia on Thursday 5th April 2012 you will see an attached posting from Danny on Ocean Pearl.
Danny has written a very detailed explanation of what is involved in replacing
the bushes in the coupler.
The gearboxes normally fitted to the Yanmar 100 HP are Hurth ZF25 2.8R which would would be different to whatever was fitted originally to your boat, as I guess it had a Volvo TMD 22 engine. You current gearbox may be different due to the 110HP Yanmar.
The Vetus coupler is a standard part and I would think that Bill Rouse will likely have the part number.
I would be well worth checking the condition of the gearbox seawater cooled heat exchanger and gear box fluid, as there will have been a lot of heat generated during the period of vibration.

Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] Vetus coupling

Hi William. That is, in fact, a Vetus flexible coupling.  You will be replacing it in kind.

I don't know if they make different sizes, just be sure the new one is sized properly.

Is that what you're asking?

Subject: [Amel Yacht Owners] Vetus coupling

  Hey there -

Any thoughts about the replacement of an old wore/damaged coupling connecting the Amel drive to the transmission with a Vetus coupling? Here is a picture of the old one that needs to be replaced. Boat is currently in Malta awaiting shipment.

Thanks for your input,

Thanks for your response Kent! To be clear I was asking about the replacement part which is a Vetus coupling. It will be replacing that old worn out coupling on a Yanmar 110HP 4JH4HTE.

Looks to me like it's pretty worn out.  I don't think I'd be comfortable trying to replace the rubber bushings and using that cracked housing.KentSM243Kristy

Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] Fuel shutoff

Paul Osterberg

We had a similar problem/experience, when we for the first time changed the fuel filter on our newly bought SM, I turned of the fuel shut of valve, but still the fuel was pouring out, i took a poly grip and squeezed the fuel line to shut of the fuel, it reduced the flow, then assuming the shut down valve was defect, later when trying to bleed the genset, we notice the syphone effect  from the return valve which made me wonder, because it should no be that way.
Finally when we for the first time left the berth for going to the yard for anti fouling, we only came ca 20 m before the main engine stopped, I was a little bit disappointment, but thought it might be the fuel shut of valve, and luckily it was, when opening the valve we could start the engine again.
However I'm still puzzled why did the flow decreased when squeezing the fuel line with the poly grip? and WHY the syphone effect from the fuel return line?
I'm planning the put in shut down valve just before the fuel filter and on the fuel return line to minimize fuel spillage when changing fuel filters etc.
