No need to respond everybody - I've found it ! FYI, if you google Xantrex Battery Monitor 975 - 0111- 01 -01 the manual pops up on the Xantrex web site.

Does anybody know the precise model no. of the Xantrex battery monitor fitted as standard to the Amel 54 (no.102). I'm trying to download a user manual, and all I can find are the Link 10 and Link 20 model manuals. The label on the bottom of the rectangular display unit just says Battery Monitor, with the manufacturer, Xantrex, written in large letters at the top.

Thanks in advance.

Dave, Tom, and John:

I also have the 4-154.  Before we left in 2011 I did extensive research on the gearbox, finding that ZF had acquired Hurth and the Hurth HBW 220 (which is what we also have) is superseded by the ZF HBW 250.  That is why the repair kits are the same.  Tom, if you have the HBW 250, I suspect that it has been changed from the original -did you buy the boat new?  The only difference I could discern between the two is the 250 comes in different gear ratios, so you have to make sure you get the one closest to the 220 which I presume is the 3R.

I was able to find a rebuilt HBW 220 as a spare and actually ended up using it while in Australia.  Had the original rebuilt in Australia and so I still have a spare on board.  The rebuiding kit is getting harder to acquire (the gearbox is only 33 years old after all...)

My Maramu with a Perkins M60 had a 2.7:1 ratio. Same as the now ZF25M. Now have a Yanmar 75hp coupled with a ZF30m 2.7:1.

Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] Chesapeake Bay Boat Yard

Mark Erdos

Veit,

The total bill was $2,780.00. They did the polishing (top sides), scraping, sanding and painting. I’m sure the price will vary with paint choices. We painted with Interlux Ultra. We did prop, shaft and bow thruster maintenance ourselves. They are not familiar with Amel so you will need to do it yourself or oversee the prop, shaft and bow thruster maintenance.

There is an Enterprise car rental location in Lexington Park that picks up there. There are several hotels nearby with reasonable rates. There is a Holiday Inn (with docks) across the water that you can dinghy to and opt not to get a car. (You cannot live on the boat while it is on the hard.) Also in the area are Grocery stores, Lowes, West Marine, Wal-Mart etc.

The marina next door is Calvets Marina. They have slips at $1.00 per night per foot on new floating concrete docks (with Boat US discount – they do not ask for the card). They have a loaner car for transients to use (one-hour at a time with slip rental).

Also, come with empty fuel tanks. We have found diesel in Solomon at $2.15 per gallon (no – that is not a typo).

Washburn’s Boatyard also plugged our shore power cord into a 240v 50amp plug for us while we were on the hard in their yard. We were able to keep the refrigerator and freezers running and keep the batteries topped off. They have limited plugs and we got lucky. It was an off the cuff comment I made about having to eat all of our food that prompted them to tell me they could do this. They did not charge for this.

Hope this helps.

With best regards,

Mark

We hauled Monday and splashed Friday. They did the polishing, scraping, sanding and painting. We did prop, shaft and bow thruster maintenance. They allowed us to work on the boat around them and also access the yard after hours.

As an added FYI, Deltaville Boatyard has been previously mentioned on this forum. We found them very difficult to do business with, and extremely expensive. (Their estimate for the same work performed was $2,000 higher than what we paid).

John,

Unfortunately I’m not on the boat or I would look directly (and my manual is there as well).  However, my recollection, although sometimes suspect, is that the ratio is 2.7:1.  I found the attached Hurth HBW 220 spec sheet that shows that is a possible ratio.  Hopefully you’ll get some total confirmation somewhere.

Best regards,
Dave

Hi Tony:

Our boat was next off the line after yours. The Xantrex manual has no model number.  However, if it will help, the number on the back of the manual is 975-0111-01-01.  I suppose this could be a publication number.

Tony,

How are you?

I have a printed version of the Xantex manual - I would be interested in a download too so if you get a link please tell me.

What are your plans and where are you? We plan to join the ARC in November then round the World from Jan 16 via Panama Canal. We have Amel 54 #035 - Carango.

I hope you haven't had any more engine problems, I had mine overhauled by Volvo in France last month and it seems to be going well.

Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] Hurth Gearbox

Tom, that’s very interesting because I have the same engine and definitely have a HBW 220 trans.  Air Ops is a 1982 model, just one year before yours.  I did a web search and can find nothing to say what the difference is between a 220 and a 250.  I did see, however, that there is a ZF Hurth major repair kit says it’s for both models so maybe they are essentially the same.  I would be definitely interested if anyone has the answer.

Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] Genoa furling gearbox re-grease

Giovanni TESTA

Hi Alain, many thanks to remember me your post.
Unfortunately I have last AMEL gearbox_2003. Any way the procedure may be adapted.
About the grease leakage, I had the doubt if the grease is from gearbox or from the forestay.
If I well remember in a post, not recent (Olivier?), it was clear that it is from forestay. For this reason I asked Bill a support. To re-fill the forestay I'm planning the job for when I'll be near an Amel base (now I'm in Thailand).
For the gearbox ( SM 428_2003 ) I'm wondering if it is possible to check and to re-grease inside.
I have the sketch of 2003 model but I don't understand (I'm not on board) if, cover removed, it is possible to do that without removing the engine.
