Be careful. Even though double lip sounds like double the sealing, it is not. On a double lip seal only one lip of a double lip is the fluid sealing lip...and grease is required between the lips. The other lip of a double lip seal is to keep solid contaminants out of the sealed area. Don't try to reinvent what Amel has done...if you do, chances are that you may regret it. Best, Bill BeBe 387

Good point. I checked into this and indeed the ones we have been using do not have the stainless springs. That being said, they have worked flawlessly for the past 8 years without leaking between changes. I did check with Motion Industries. SKF does make 45x65x8 seals with stainless garter springs selling for $14.26. Also double lip configuration for $15.69 (interesting). As I had mentioned before, the carbon steel spring version is $6.35 by comparison. Google on SKF HMS5 lipseal to learn more than you need to know. Mike From: amelyachtowners@... The water maker will be discarding bad water to the same hose as the bilge pump. After a little while the green light will appear. Make sure to adjust the knob to remain in the green arc. The little bubble will show you how many litters per hour you are making. From the little faucet you can use a PPM meter and see how many particule you have. With a new membrane I have 10… I forgot at what number you should be changing the Membrane (I am sure Bill or someone will give the number). in 220 Volt mode: Note: this is 220 Volt 50 Hz. So depending where you are located, make sure it is 50 HZ. The US, Bahamas, etc. provide 60 HZ so you would have to run your generator in order to get 50 HZ. Turn swtich to the right (220 Volt) and the same as above. I monitor with the water floating stick that I am making water. On my side I preferred to hire a professional to check the high pressure switch and the quality sensor. Don’t forget to change the high pressure hoses if you don’t know the last time they were changed. A failure of these can cost you several thousands of dollars in damages… many people lost their batteries charger… You should use it, at least once a week for a few minutes (to keep the membrane wet). If you are in a marina, you can “rinse” it. There is a valve before the filter that you can move. Now, instead of sea water it receive fresh water from your tank. BUT, you can not use water with chlorine, otherwise will destroy the membrane. Personally I have install a charbon filter to remove the chlorine when I flush it. Pat: Amel did not install the w/maker. Owner installed a 12v Katadyn and I would prefer a 4' commercial membrane which is the standard available worldwide. There is no generator. If your unit requires 220v for the pressure pump then our setup is not a good fit. Thank you /Reid

The previous owner installed it so that when it leaked, which it did, it did so on the motor. The issue would be how large a unit we could fit. We need new membranes etc in any case.

Yes, you are correct, I made a typo. The water pump I need is 0132-0277. The part prices are out of date on the website. Current prices are 429.69 for the pump. Pump will be overnight-ed and the current rebuild kit I have will be used on the old pump if I can figure it out or as spare parts.

OK, John. I have not been on board a SM as early as yours...things changed through the model years. Facing the dining table the A/C is under the left rear corner seat. And since we have the 2 freezer option, we have a freezer under each side outside seat cushions. Good luck, but look for water in every compartment between the bulkhead on the aft side of the forward head to the bulkhead for the engine room...open up everything. You might try a trick I used once to find a hidden leak. Disconnect the output line of the water pump and shoot some compressed air (not too much pressure) into the line while someone with good ears listens for escaping air in the salon area. Thank you Bill for your immediate response, which suggested to me that I am most likely looking for the where the hose connects to the copper line going to the aft shower as the source of the leak. The forward bench of the salon table contains the AC unit whereas the aft bench has a freezer. The corner plywood seat is screwed down but I will attempt to remove it as see what's there later today. The pump I have is part 123-0277, the "overhaul" kit was part 0132-0281. included are some pictures (Check photos). The problem is the schematic I have (provided by onan) which is the worst representation of what I have pulled out. I know I have read some things about replacement pumps made by various aftermarket distributors. Can anyone chime in on this? Might be forced to rebuild and order the $600.00 replacement form Onan.

The water maker will be discarding bad water to the same hose as the bilge pump. After a little while the green light will appear. Make sure to adjust the knob to remain in the green arc. The little bubble will show you how many litters per hour you are making. From the little faucet you can use a PPM meter and see how many particule you have. With a new membrane I have 10… I forgot at what number you should be changing the Membrane (I am sure Bill or someone will give the number). in 220 Volt mode: Note: this is 220 Volt 50 Hz. So depending where you are located, make sure it is 50 HZ. The US, Bahamas, etc. provide 60 HZ so you would have to run your generator in order to get 50 HZ. Turn swtich to the right (220 Volt) and the same as above. I monitor with the water floating stick that I am making water. On my side I preferred to hire a professional to check the high pressure switch and the quality sensor. Don’t forget to change the high pressure hoses if you don’t know the last time they were changed. A failure of these can cost you several thousands of dollars in damages… many people lost their batteries charger… You should use it, at least once a week for a few minutes (to keep the membrane wet). If you are in a marina, you can “rinse” it. There is a valve before the filter that you can move. Now, instead of sea water it receive fresh water from your tank. BUT, you can not use water with chlorine, otherwise will destroy the membrane. Personally I have install a charbon filter to remove the chlorine when I flush it. John, I cannot be much help because I have never done any water line plumbing on an Amel. On SM 387, there is a pair of copper water lines that are behind the back cushion on the dining table seating. If you are facing the dining table, remove the back cushion on the right side...you should see the lines that go to the shower control. Do you have a freezer under that seat cushion? Or, is it an open compartment? On SM 387, the seats and backs are secured by Velcro and the seat plywood panel under the cushion and over the A/C is removable. The water is going to migrate to all of the floor compartments in the saloon area and because your boat has watertight bulkheads, you are going to have to open all of these compartments between the engine room bulkhead and the bulkhead on the aft side of the forward head. You will need a pump to pump out the water and probably a wet/vac to complete the drying out. I wish I could help you more, but that exhausted what I can tell you. So depending where you are located, make sure it is 50 HZ. The US, Bahamas, etc. provide 60 HZ so you would have to run your generator in order to get 50 HZ. Turn swtich to the right (220 Volt) and the same as above. I monitor with the water floating stick that I am making water. On my side I preferred to hire a professional to check the high pressure switch and the quality sensor. Don’t forget to change the high pressure hoses if you don’t know the last time they were changed. A failure of these can cost you several thousands of dollars in damages… many people lost their batteries charger… You should use it, at least once a week for a few minutes (to keep the membrane wet). If you are in a marina, you can “rinse” it. There is a valve before the filter that you can move. Now, instead of sea water it receive fresh water from your tank. BUT, you can not use water with chlorine, otherwise will destroy the membrane. Personally I have install a charbon filter to remove the chlorine when I flush it.
