Re: electrolysis on mast/boom connection
Danny!
I measured the voltage difference again between the bolt and the mast again more that a week after that I turned the bolt a few revs and there is still hardly any potential difference at all. Newer the less I worked out the bolt it toke a while and in principle the bolt is totally isolated from any other metal contact as there a "plastic" washers and plastic "bearings" where the bolt is, so the only reason I can think of for the voltage difference is salt water and salt crust. I will treat the bolt with TefTec before mounting it back. By the way what paint do you use for repainting the mast around the corroded are?= I need to paint as well Paul on S/Y Kerpa SM#259

I should know Stephanie, since I did that 3 years ago when I purchase NIKIMAT, change from French to BVI flag, but the broker did all the work...

I know I had to send a letter to the "service Douane Navigation" (French navigation customs) to ask for the "radiation du pavillon". This was my broker, that I highly recommend. Jean Paul Bahuaud Caraibe Yachts / Caribbean Yachts Cell + 590 690 35 01 98 email: jp.bahuaud@... Why do you want to put a US flag? My understand (from going at the Miami boat show 2 years ago), is that "as long as the tax in the US has been paid" you are allowed to put for sale or charter your vessel in the US. All they care is the money. I am saying that because I visited a large sailing boat (over 100') who had a foreign flag, so I said: shouldn't you put a disclaimer that it is only for sale or charter to non US resident and the person told me, no, the tax is paid, etc. So you might be going through a lots of trouble for nothing as the next owner is likely to change again the flag... Hi Derick, the purpose of these both screws is to hold the nylon bearing into the stainless steel belt. The nylon bearing can live without screws. If you replace the original screw, don't make it too long, otherwise, if your long screw goes all the way through the bearing, it could affect the rudder shaft. Olivier

De-flagging
Stephanie DiBelardino <stephiedib@...>
Our 46' Santorin is flagged in France. We want to de-flag her so that she can be registered and sold in the US. I tried to search on how to de-flag a pleasure boat registered in France but was not successful. I have sent an inquiry to a maritine office in LaRochelle, but have not yet received an answer. Can anyone offer any advice!

Derick,
What is the purpose of the bolt? Does it screw into the skeg? Is the skeg internally threaded for the bolt? Thanks for posting this, I was very curious. Duane Wanderer SM #477

I removed the loose bolt, and found it to be much shorter (10mm) than was warranted. I have replaced it with an 8 X 30 mm stainless steel bolt, which screwed in tightly.

Loose bolt on rudder hinge SM2K
Hi all, I have Brava on the hard to renew her antifouling, and I noticed that the middle hinge on the rudder has a large bolt countersunk into the hinge. On the port side this bolt is tight, but on the starboard side the bolt turns and turns without tightening, nor does it extract when you try to loosen it. I have posted a picture of the loose bolt and the hinge in the photos section under "rudder hinge SM2K". Does anyone know the function of these bolts (Olivier?) and their importance? I do not want to take measures to extract the loose bolt and perhaps replace it without some foreknowledge. Derick SM2K#400 Brava

When you are on the board itself, there is a "Notify" button at each category level. You do have to turn that on which allows you to pick and choose which categories, or even which individual topics, you wish be notified of. In our case it's probably best to to go through and toggle them all on, but on some boards people may only want to hear about their individaul kind of pickup and individual sports team or whatever. Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] Re: Changes to Yahoo
Alexandre,
Great :) but umm, I forgot a piece of the puzzle there. Look for the "Notify" button at the bottom of the topics list next to "New Topic". Gary W. S/V Adagio, SM 209 BVI

One addition to the members page would be to list the members model as it could help direct communication between owners with similar models.

Re: Changes to Yahoo
Hi Alain,
The moderators fundamentally have the right to mess with other peoples' messages. In a good way :) It would be important to keep messages in their correct or appropriate categories so moderators can move them between subjects. The same with pictures and files. You would have the ability to hide or delete offensive material and send the user a warning. You would be be to take two or more similar discussion topics and merge them into one for ease of search and likewise if a discussion takes a turn toward a different subject you can split out those posts and create a new topic. Answering questions, maybe (although in this group I'd never ever expect to) handling a complaint, and deleting any spam. You can also "lock" topics; meaning no else can add to it until it's unlocked. This will be useful if we have, for instance, a reference topic with a list if part numbers or sources or the like and we need it to not get lost in a discussion. It would only be updated with your consent to keep it clean and relevant. You can "sticky" a topic, meaning it will always be presented at the top of the topics list, no matter how many additional messages might show up. A 'stickied' message might contain all the links we need to point to important resources like bow thruster maintenance instructions, Polars, places to get maintenance performed that are familiar with Amels and other data we don;t want to get buried. You can also set up and handle any Polls (surveys) based on the group's requests. I'm probably leaving stuff out, but I also need to say that until the board gets up and running full time there will be very little to do except practice. I'll try to help facilitate that. Once we get a hundred or so people using the board there will be stuff to do and if we have a thousand people it will take enough time that we should bring in two more moderators. All along, the need to grow topics, expand and refine categories and rearrange the structure is easily handled without losing any data. Let me know what you think. Gary W. SM 209, "Adagio" BVI
