Just like the original Amel 16 meter was the “Meltem” (1970s) also a wind in the Aegean Sea. I think the Mango and Fango come from the “lou mango fango” which is the name of the mistral in Provence and means “mud eater” because the Mistral dry the land. There also was Mistral & Alize (model from the 1950s and 1960s) that everyone’s know. Sharki is a south wind in the Middle east. Pampero (model from the 1960) is a wind near Argentina. Euros (production in 1970s) is Grec god of the East wind. Garbi (production from the 1970s) is a wind near the Island Balearic. Not sure either if there is a wind names Santorin or if it just refer to the island… Don’t know about Copain (1960s) May be Olivier can confirm or correct me! In a way it is sad they did not continue to use wind name. Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] What meen the name Maramu
Bill & Judy Rouse <yahoogroups@...>
Maramu is one on the winds in the Mediterranean. There seem to be a number of them like the fast-blowing wind from the north during the summer in the Aegean Sea. It is a Meltemi. Bill

Stefano Hello we had Emek Marine in Turkey made them for us, the one for the hatch in the salon and the one in the forward head is "permanent", but we do not expect to evacuate that way anyhow. The two for the after and fore cabin are removable and one can easily shut and opens the hatch without removing them so they are more or less permanent and rather convenient. The reason for us having them is to feel relatively secured when leaving the boat for a while and still be able to have the hatches open and the boat ventilated. I think it's better to have them locally made than general purpose the complexity and weight will probably be much lower. The cost to have them done in Turkey was around 450 € for all 4 of them Paul on S/Y Kerpa SM#259

Re: Safety hatches
Stefano
Hello we had Emek Marine in Turkey made them for us, the one for the hatch in the salon and the one in the forward head is "permanent", but we do not expect to evacuate that way anyhow. Hello Stefano,

Yes I have 2 sets of the Burglar Bars "M", 45-55 cm Part #1111 1 for the forward hatch and 1 for the salon. http://nikimat.com/hatches_safety_bars.html I rarely use them… If you were closer, I would sell you mine as I am trying to save weight for the boat… I like them because they are removable and heavy duty, they will discourage the random thief. But they are very heavy and you will have to remove them to close the hatch (like if it starts raining). Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] Re: Access to mizzen topping lift bungee 1988 Maramu
I recently replaced both the cords. I ordered 25 feet and it was plenty to do both the mizzen and main. Like Bill said, try not to lose the bitter end and the project will go much easier:
Here is what I replaced mine with:

To complete this project, about how much 10mm bungee is needed for each boom setup? I noticed on a resent sail that my mizzen boom hits the back stays unless sheeted? Figured it was the topping lift and this decision confirms.
Thanks,

Bill, From memory, about 2 meters, or less for the mizzen and about 5 for the main because it is doubled. Bill

Measure your old bungee. Finally you need it to be shorter because your old one is streched. I sellected the length by test. I made it shorter and shorter untill it pulled the boom up as I want it. Obviously it is eazy to make it shorter if you start with a longer one. I don't know what the final free length is.

I am going to guess that a late model Maramu is the same as a SM. The mast side end of the bungee is secured to a fitting (like a hook) under the boom, near the mast. Look under, and you should see it. The boom end side of the bungee is tied to the rope part of the boom lift. Untie the knot and pull the line free of the block on the end of the wire topping lift. The rest of the job is fairly straight forward. Use a piece of line on the mast end so you don't loose the bitter end. You will probably have to do this job twice because you won't get it tight enough the first time. When complete, you shoul be able to lift the boom 60CM and the bungee keep the lift line tight. Consider this when doing the job...you will still probably do it twice. Use two 10mm bungees for the main. Everyone, these bungees have a life of about 6 years. It is always better to replace before failure and 10mm bungee is very cheap. Bill

Hi Graham, I just replased bungees on both booms. You don't have to remove the track. You have access to the bungee from both ends of the boom. Look inside the boom from both ends and you will see the bungee. I connected a message line to the bungee and then cut the bungee off on one end. I pulled bungee out and replased it with a new one using the message line. Good luck with your project. Vladimir
