[Amel Yacht Owners] Companion way Broken lock and repair

Alexandre Uster von Baar

I noticed the lock on the companion way was wobbly.

Last week I emailed Amel to order a new one.

Well… this morning it broke…

So I put it apart and was able to repaired it.

Here is how I did it:

Don't see any problem assume the size of the hatches are the same,
The Stainless steel work by Emek is of good quality, and mounting is not very difficult unless you have problem to drill a hole through the deck, but better to do it by yourself then at least you know how it is done and that it is properly sealed

Can,t see any problem I assume all SM are identical with respect to hatches
Installation should be rather straight forward
We are very happy with the SS job they have done

Thanks again Paul.  Can you think of any reason not to order these from Emek and install them myself?

The locking is by a "spike" and a padlock. I hope the pictures speaks for them self.
The eye bolt are thru the deck and made specially for the purpose from outside it looks as original mounted no problem with that.

The
Maramu is a south wind in the Pacifique that can reach 50
kt

Just like the original Amel 16 meter was the “Meltem”
(1970s) also a wind in the Aegean Sea.

I think the Mango and Fango come from the “lou mango
fango” which is the name of the mistral in Provence and
means “mud eater” because the Mistral dry the land.

There also was Mistral & Alize (model from the 1950s and
1960s) that everyone’s know.

Sharki is a south wind in the Middle east.

Pampero (model from the 1960) is a wind near Argentina.

Euros (production in 1970s) is Grec god of the East wind.

Garbi (production from the 1970s) is a wind near the Island
Balearic.

Not sure either if there is a wind names Santorin or if it
just refer to the island…

Don’t know about Copain (1960s)

May be Olivier can confirm or correct me!

In a way it is sad they did not continue to use wind name.

The Maramu is a south wind in the Pacifique that can reach 50 kt

Just like the original Amel 16 meter was the “Meltem” (1970s) also a wind in the Aegean Sea.

I think the Mango and Fango come from the “lou mango fango” which is the name of the mistral in Provence and means “mud eater” because the Mistral dry the land.

There also was Mistral & Alize (model from the 1950s and 1960s) that everyone’s know.

Sharki is a south wind in the Middle east.

Pampero (model from the 1960) is a wind near Argentina.

Euros (production in 1970s) is Grec god of the East wind.

Garbi (production from the 1970s) is a wind near the Island Balearic.

Not sure either if there is a wind names Santorin or if it just refer to the island…
Don’t know about Copain (1960s)

May be Olivier can confirm or correct me!

In a way it is sad they did not continue to use wind name.

Sincerely, Alexandre

Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] What meen the name Maramu

Bill Kinney <greatketch@...>

Sorry, Bill, but in this case you’re wrong.  A “Maramu” is the reinforced trade winds in Polynesia, at least according the World Voyage Planner by Jimmy Cornell were he writes:

“…in the trade wind zones, where direction is more constant, the strength of the forecast wind should be the deciding factor This is particularly true when there is a forecast of reinforced trade winds, known in Tahiti as maramu.”

It is possible there is a wind in the Med with the same name, but I have never seen a reference to it.  Has anyone else?

The is also a village in France called “Maramu” but I don’t think there is any connection to the boat.”

Maramu is one on the winds in the Mediterranean. There seem to be a number of them like the fast-blowing wind from the  north during the summer in the Aegean Sea. It is a Meltemi.
