Re: 24V/230V Inverter
Hi Duane,
I believe we have what was the standard fitment in 2004 under the nav tablke rhs cupboard. Mastervolt 24/500....ie 500W...doesn't run much except laptop, phone chargers etc I installed a 1500W inverter I bought on the internet and installed it in the locker above the galley and use it to power small kitchen appliances and my espresso machine (that was the real reason for it!). It is actually electrically much less noisy than the Mastervolt unit. I know others have even larger units in the engine room Cheers Alan Elyse SM437

24V/230V Inverter
Duane Siegfri
An option on the SM was a 24V/230V Inverter. I am interested in what model Amel put on the boats if someone has one...or which one you might have added. Thanks, Duane Wanderer, SM

Perkins Prima 60 Dimensions
James Alton
Hello all, Does anyone know the size of a socket required to fit the large bolt/nut on the front of the crankshaft of the Perkins Prima 60? Also, are the glow plugs metric or Imperial? I would like to remove the glow plugs, get some oil into the cylinders and roll the engine over by hand before trying to start due to the extended layup. (If the glow plugs are too tight, I will remove the injectors) I cannot seem to find these dimensions searching online. Thanks, James Hoping to soon be the owner of Maramu #220 "Sueno"

Hi Alan, New Zealand - we found it very hard to leave. Noa is currently in Lisbon, so a bit far for a little cuddle up of #436 and #437 at the moment. I´ll post some photos later. Cheers, Walter (Noa, SM436)

Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] Bow thruster
Hi Walter,
Where are you? We are in New Zealand waiting for weather to take us to Fiji. Do you have any photos of this bowthruster drain pipe arrangement that you have and I don't? Cheers Alan Elyse SM437

Hi Allan,
#436 and #437 must have met when being built in 2004. Although the first owner of Noa let Amel built a few bits and pieces to his liking, I´m pretty sure the setup of draining the bow thruster compartment was not his idea. It would be nice to meet and compare the boats. Cheers, Walter (Noa, SM436)

Thanks Danny,
I've been all around the back between the stainless plate and the lamp housing and can't find anything that moves. Cheers Alan Elyse SM437

Thanks, but can you give me a bit more detail?
I've tried prying from the top, bottom and side with a small screwdriver and can't find anything that moves. Cheers Alan Elyse sm437

Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] Bow thruster
Hi Joel,
Yes we have the wooden panel with the perspex hinged top to access the pin, not the curtain. I can confirm there is only one pipe and valve and that is for the anchor locker. Also, just before we did the bowthruster seals last year, we had a small amount of salt water in the well outside the forward head, now with new seals and proper adjustment we are dry. I flew jets (A-4 and A-7, which reveals my vintage) off aircraft carriers for most of my career in the Navy, and was Air Operations Officer on the USS Kitty Hawk toward the end. When we were trying to decide on a new name for the boat, Merry suggested Air Ops, which was the short version for that Navy position. After all, she said, sailing is an Air Operation. Who was I to say no? There’s another connection between you and Air Ops. Her second owner was Jeffrey Rapp, who moved up to the SM Antares. Dave s/v Air Ops Amel Maramu #104 Sea of Cortez, Mexico

That is a nice boat with a great ‘soul’. I have a few thousand miles aboard and every one was a pleasure. Are you a military or commercial aviator?
After I sold INDEPENDENCE, the Chamberlains bought a brand new Amel MANGO 52/53 ( dependent on which brochure you read!) which got destroyed in a hurricane in Guadaloupe FWI. They actually figured out that they preferred the Maramu for the two of them, which was their normal compliment, so I sold them the one from Wisconsin which I shipped down and recommissioned in Fort Lauderdale. It was in my backyard on my dock when they fell in love with it.
Good luck with Air Ops!

Hi Joel,
Yes, the loss of Morning Dove is very sad, but of course we’re glad that the entire crew was safely rescued. We met Bruce and saw Morning Dove last spring in Puerto Escondido, Baja California Sur. She was a beautiful boat.
Also, you have found the current owners of the Maramu formerly named Independence, Maramu #104. My wife and I are the fifth owners, having bought the boat in 2000. She had gone through two name changes since the Chamberlains owned her (Jezebel, then Doing It) , and we changed it again to her great delight. She is now named Air Ops, and is in great shape. Since 2007 we have kept her in Mexican waters, home-porting her in Puerto Escondido and sailing her about ½ each year in the Sea of Cortez and down the Mexican Pacific coast.

Least there be any doubt, as I stated previously, that boat that was just lost on a reef in the Pacific was, absolutely for certain, a Maramu and not a Super Maramu .I saw that boat come out of the mold and sold it to the first two owners. It was a very sweet and extremely well preserved example when I sold it last.

Looking at the pictures of the vessel in question, it appears to be a Maramu. Consider the shape of the side windows on its hard dodger.
An unfortunate incident, this of Morning Dove, and a reminder that electronic charts are to be used with extreme care. In Peregrinus, we currently carry two different vector charts and one raster chart for the area we are cruising. Regards, Peregrinus SM2K No. 350 At anchor, Fort de Brégançon (7 NM east of Hyères)
