On the electrical drawings from Amel, it shows the sump pump coming from the battery side of the switch.  That's how Kristy was wired when I got her.  I have also moved the charger DC output cables to the battery side of the switch so I can turn everything off but the charger.

Any reason we couldn't power the bilge pump from the battery side of the main switches?  That's how my charger is wired.

I really don't think a functioning sump pump is necessary when on the hard, but when in the water, it would be nice to have a functioning sump pump, but turn everything else off.

there was a cutaway sample of the sail drive , and the

I remember you telling me the story in Florida…

There is a little drain hose at the bottom of the rope storage under the mizzen mast.
You could add more and/or also add the same trap door. Just a thought…

Alexandre,
We were knocked down by a series of rogue waves coming
over the starboard side filling the cockpit. Unfortunately
the trap door was open and water exploded out of the vents
inside the boat like a fire hydrant.
I was just thinking that if the air intake was in the
cubby under the mizzen there would be a reservoir for the
water to continue to fill the ductwork.

Alexandre,
We have different engines however we do have a Hurt
tranny. I had spare hydraulic hoses made for my shaft brake
and the oil cooler at a hydraulic hose shop. It was a 15
minute project to make the 3 hoses.
They used better quality hose with a steel mesh liner.
I also had them make a new hose for the stove with the same
5000 psi rated hose with a steel interior braid. They had a
hydraulic press to attach the fittings.

Good morning Eric,

In my opinion the later setup is better:

With the Air intake on the port cockpit seat like you and I have, every time we are opening the storage, we are blocking the air intake.
There is actually a red sign on the storage door to remind of that.

Also, ours has a little trap to close, in the event of bad sea (and the trap open) water could come in.

In my opinion, with the air intake in the rope storage under the mizzen mast, you won’t get the chance of water intrusion nor would it be blocked.
The only disadvantage will be the little lost space for the mizzen ballooner.
If, like I do, you have a sock on your mizzen ballooner, make sure it still fit.
I would definitely use a stainless steel tube in the position to avoid the weight of the mizzen ballooner crushes the tube.

If you process to this set-up, please take pictures (how you drill, etc.)as i am very interested (for another possible project).
Would be wise to get Olivier’s blessing to make sure the hole has no structural effect on the strength of the mizzen mast.

I agree Kent , keeping my boat on a mooring I want the sump to be working, but would like to disconnect the rest of the boat. I am reluctant to change things electrically , but am wondering if there is a compelling reason not to change it over. I hope everything went well for you.

Any reason we couldn't power the bilge pump from the battery side of the main switches?  That's how my charger is wired.

I really don't think a functioning sump pump is necessary when on the hard, but when in the water, it would be nice to have a functioning sump pump, but turn everything else off.

Rudder and sail drive photos

When I visited Amel in La Rochelle there was a cutaway sample of the sail drive , and the inside of the rudder in the lobby of the main office. I can not find the photos of this.

Does anyone have these that they could share. This was for the later Super Maramus like Kimberlite built in 2002.

One of the things that Joel told me to
keep on my maintenance schedule was inspection of the Hurth
Transmission cooler for corrosion.  Many thanks to him for
mentioning it, it is something I would have missed.  Sure
enough, mine needed to be replaced.
It's very much a crappy
design:  A cast aluminum box made part of the engine
galvanic electrical circuit.  Not surprising that it has
issues. I have read rumors that there is a stainless steel
version also available, but that would have its own
problems.  Stainless has a much lower thermal conductivity
than aluminum, so it wouldn't cool as
efficiently. 
I installed a new aluminum
cooler, and modified it to accept a zinc anode.  You can

Eric,

We cut off the original Amel ducting inside the cockpit locker and replaced it with Eberspächer-brand silencer  (where it fit) and with heater-rated marine ducting (where Espar silencers are too long to fit or where the Amel curves are too much for the Espar silencers).

Obviously where the ducting actually goes into the locker bulkheads aft and fwd, we simply joined in with the factory flimsy-looking ducting.

We cruised the boat continuously during the 2015/2016 winter season and ran the heater hundreds of hours, all copacetic.  

I guess the Amel factory ducting is actually better quality than it looks, but I am still glad the areas closest to the heater have improved ducting.

Does any one know this boat?  It's owner is Bob Wall, I don't know the boats name or hill number.

I bought the wireless remote control for my Espar D5 from them, and they sell parts.   Any time I wrote them before and after purchase, they wrote considered, personalised responses.  Their website is heatso.com, but I get the feeling not everything is on their website.
