Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] sea wather from bow-thruster

Thanks Bill, for your help.
I looked in the box of the switches and, I think, that the problem is right there. I enclose 5 photos to make it clear what type of control box is : The boat is Santorin 122 year 1995. I run some tests: at the end of the lifting or lowering movement of the BT a sound signals the end of the operation. Does it mean that the switches work correctly? Could it be simply a problem of incorrect positioning of the locks on the spindle that triggs the switches? (photo BT5)?? For now I turn it off manually, but I need to find asap a solution. Thanks to all. EnioRossi Earendil #SN122 Italy

Found the problem with my Onan
eric freedman
My MDKAV had numerous fault signals. My genset would run for 30 seconds and stop. First low oil pressure—changed sender— Now new fault code- no fuel- changed fuel pump- Another fault defective water temp sender- changed sender then the dreaded fault 13- change the PCB board had a spare. Same problem and still code 13. That stumped even the Onan factory. The genset was also putting out 53 volts.
Having knowledge of the isolated ground on my Yanmar after completely rewiring the engine, I decided the problem was with the isolated ground and the PCB board was not properly connected to the dc negative from the battery and getting confused as to what to do.
I started at the battery cable and cleaned all of the connections and tested the generator as I cleaned and used corrosion x and tightened the connection.. Finally there was only one connection- the braided ground strap that went to the PCB board. I removed the screw holding it on to the board, cleaned paint off of the board where the ground strap connects to the board and noticed that the screw which held the strap in place was slightly corroded. I cleaned it up added corrosion x and PROBLEM SOLVED.

Re: Instal AC / Genset on Santorin
Hello Trevor,
On our Santorin we have a 6kw Northern Lights generator (we run it at 110v or you can run it at 4.8kw @ 220v). We also have a 110v, 18,000 Btu A/C. The Genset is just to port of the main engine - still lots of access room. The A/C compressor is on a shelf to the port side of the engine room that I suspended from the bottom of the lazarette locker. It is a split system with a 12K BTU condenser/fan unit in the dinette seat locker, ducted to the main salon bulkhead, the head and the forward cabin, plus a 6K BTU unit on the shelf over the fuel tank that is ducted into the aft cabin. All have been working without problems for 12 years now (7000 hours on the genset). Also run a 20 gph water maker at 110v with high pressure pump in engine room and controls / membrane on the shelf over the fuel tank. And we have a 110v refrigerator with holding plates - split system with refrigeration under galley counter where original refrig and dry storage area was and freezer under salon dining table where original wine storage used to be. While cruising full time it takes about 45 minutes of generator running each morning and evening to freeze the holding plates, charge batteries and make water. This summer we ran the generator all night at anchor a few nights for A/C as it was so bloody hot in the US and we're too cheap to pay for a marina. Cheers, Craig Briggs, SN#68 Sangaris

Ooops, my bad. Typing before morning coffee... Dessalator says 1% Sodium bisulfite in 20% glycerine for storage and freeze protection.

For freeze protection Dessalator say 1% SMBS in 20% glycerine. Not glycol.

Do these products protect the system from freezing ? I need to store the boat on the hard for the winter , so I cannot flush it with fresh water weekly .I know people that use potable antifreeze . Is anyone aware of damage done by using antifreeze with glycol ? It was recommended to me by Great Water , the dealer for these watermakers.
Thanks,

Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] PCB board for an MDKAV onan generator
Bill & Judy Rouse <yahoogroups@...>
Eric, Onan uses at least 10 different PCB boards and you need to look for the part number you need. BeBe #387 has Onan PCB board 300-5521. Your PCB may be different than mine. I checked ebay and there are some Onan PCB boards priced from $150 - $300, but none listed as a replacement for 300-5521. Are you still in Cartagena? There was a German electronics guy there that made board level repair on anything except PCs. If you can find the boat guy Alberto there, he can bring you to the German. He repaired a board in my Sat Phone...amazing! I also noticed on Ebay that some of the Onan PCBs were labeled as "after market." One of the after market manufacturers is http://www.dinosaurelectronics.com/ They apparently make about 12 different Onan PCBs, but do not list the 300-5521. I would contact them. Another after market Onan PCB maker to contact is Flight Systems. They do not list the 300-5521, but maybe one of these is interchangeable with your PCB: https://www.flightsystems.com/standby-generator-ats-controls/onan-regulators-and-controls.html Bill BeBe 387

Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] 55' Amel
Richard03801 <richard03801@...>
James, to set the record straight I do not own a 55 however I've done a lot of miles as a captain. They Point high in the low 30's run will down wind. The relocation of the batteries, water tanks, and fuel tanks with the associated hull/keel change make then a faster more comfortable cruiser. There is a fair amount of interior flexibility in the configuration and appointments. Best of luck with your MARAMU they too are wonderful yachts. Well a head of their time when they were built. OK,
Here's what I got from Dessalator... Dear Sir,
Thank you for your message.
For the sterilization we use Sodium metabisulphite HP (see specification sheet enclosed and procedure). You need 80gr of it
We don’t recommend to use a cleaning product: Simply rinse your system once a month.
With best regards
Secretary Dessalator Rosyne Castino Note Sodium meta BISULPHITE....not sulphate..... Cheers Alan Elyse Sm437

Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] Bilge pump alarm
VLADIMIR SONSEV
Installation of a bilge pump alarm was one of the first improvements that I implemented on my boat. That is very importent safety related improvment. It is ezy to implement and inexpensive. I just installed a buzzer that cost approximately $2.00 parallel to bilge pump light on 24V panel. The buzzer sits behind the pannel. I highly recommend this improvement to evrybody. Vladimir

Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] Bilge pump alarm
Bill & Judy Rouse <yahoogroups@...>
Ofer, When Amel joins hoses in the pressurized fresh water system, they use not only some sort of glue, but also 2 clamps. You may know why they do this now. Regarding your gray water pump, I assume that you have the Reya/AMFA "Marina ZZ" Bilge pump. If so, the most likely reasons for it not pumping are, in order, most likely, first:
