CAT pumps in the 240 and 270 series are appropriate for the high pressure pump but I bought a similar pump from General Pump: part number WM4215S. It’s a plunger pump that can deliver 4.2 gl/min and has stainless steel components. Mine is belt driven off the engine with a 12v clutch but they can also be directly coupled to an electric motor. www.generalpump.com.

My pressure vessels (I have two which is why the system can make 35 gl/hr) are from Hydrocomponents and Technologies, Inc, HCTI: model number 2540SW. www.hcti.com.

The quality sense scheme is a fake on all boards up to about 2010. Also, I believe that the reason that they suggested a new control panel is that the pressure valve they used on yours is not really the quality necessary for saltwater. It will suffer from corrosion...use CorrosionX liberally on the outside if this valve. Oh, and many of us had white end caps which were made of inferior material...another Dessalator error. These are common Dessalator errors that most of us have paid for.

I add diesel to fill up to the sight bowl and then run the engine in gear for a few seconds - obviously, have a helper on the ground to be sure no one gets near the prop. Repeat if necessary until clean. Not having cooling water is not a problem for the short time.  If you want to run it longer, put the engine water intake hose in a bucket being filled with shoreside water - you can then bring the engine up to temp if you also want to do an engine oil change while on the hard.

Mohammad,

I would not recommend this unless you are sure how the shaft brake works...

The brake is normally ON. The brake is turned OFF by hydraulic pressure from the transmission. The transmission builds hydraulic pressure when the engine is running and opens the calipers from their normal position which is closed tightly against the disk.

There is an adjustment which you could change to open the brake calipers....BUT....when you finish with your cleaning, you will want to be sure to have it correctly adjusted back to where the brake calipers are closed against the disk enough to brake the shaft with the engine OFF....AND....open enough to have no drag on the disk when the motor is running and hydraulic pressure opens the calipers. You will see the adjusting bolt and its locking nut on one end of the brake hydraulic ram.

The calipers need adjusting every 5 years or so. Some brake pads have worn out because they were not adjusted.

Paul:  

This outfit has stud mount wire lead run and start capacitors that are a fit for the various Amel motors and Air Conditionings systems.  I suspect they will ship to Grenada.

Sometimes their web site is a bit strange so search around and you will no doubt find a spec. and size/configuration that will work. 

  

The capacitors are good from 5 - 10 years.  If the value drifts down from specification the motor will typically run hotter than if the capacitor is on spec.

I wonder what is good replacement for original watermaker? Should I stay with DESSALATOR brand or there are better and less expensive replacements? Please give me advise. 
If someone have replaced original DESSALATOR watermaker and saved DESSALATOR parts, I probubly buy old control board, controlle panel ,pump and other parts.

Thanks. At this moment watermaker motors are disconnected and removed. I checked continuity between 24V plugs and bonding.  They are connected. Is this OK.

From previous emails from Bill I understood that bondind should not be connected to batterry minus. Did I understand this correctly?

Kent, For the potable/drinking water input & output to/from the water heater, I used potable water hose, available from West or Budget Marine. For the coolant going in & out I'd use heater hose from an auto parts supply store. - Jim

Yes I am in touch with Martin and as you say he is very helpful. My 24v motor is running as I write this, but with the solenoid bypassed. I think I have now fixed the solenoid - it was not making contact inside, so will try it again once the engine room as cooled down. As for the 220v one I need a new starting capacitor which is proving to be difficult to find here in Grenada.
