Willem,

Yes.

Later today, I will post the B&G Hydra manual in the Files Section of the Amel Owner's Group website.

However, you most likely need the replace a part in the 213MHU, which is the B&G mast head unit. I will also post in the Files Section a exploded view of the 213MHU with the part circled and some instructions on how to

I've used PassageWeather.com in the past, it's free and pretty good most of the time 4-5 days out.  Have been using PredictWind.com for a year and it gives predictions based on 4 different models.  Will even suggest routing and departure.  So far very good, but not perfect 4/5 days out.

We also use predict wind with IGo, extreemly userfriendly and works well. The service they provide is second to none, but they give you up to four different models, I would have proffered thay they at least had a view wich they believe in,
An other source used by cruising friends for the region. Is by Chris Parker more personal touch, either via E mail or SSB.

I'm pretty sure that "consensus" is not something sailors do well!

My vote is for PredictWind. It works great on our IridumGo, they have a good routing feature, and, my favorite, a departure planning tool.

That said, no single source is ever "good enough" for my weather planning. In addition to PrefictWind, I always look at the weatherfax for my region. These tools are not completely "digested". A fair amount of background is needed to evaluate the data and get all you can out of them.

If I have internet connection in port, I'll use many more.

Bill,

After rear and bow units shutdown, I threw all three breakers fairly quickly so perhaps saloon would have stopped as well if I had not acted quickly.  But I should investigate. All is well now with a new March AC pump.

We had similar symptoms when AC saltwater pump failed.  Bow   and aft units shut down and saloon ran with fan but no AC.  Check to make sure you are pumping cooling saltwater (discharge is located port bow ).

Courtney,
Here are some other data points for you based on a UK registered Amel 54 sailing in the Med, valued at €550k.

Pantaenius: €3000
Y Yacht: €2400
DeNovo: €2700

As others have mentioned make sure you are satisfied with the particular coverage and exclusions attached to each policy offering.

Where is the boat located Courtney?

Cheers
Dean

Courtney,

I agree with Alen and I believe that Velos may be the best solution available today for Americans sailing across oceans. Write Velos at Insurance"at"velosgroup.co.uk and tell them that you have an Amel 54 which is one model newer than BeBe. They seem to love Amels.

Hi Courtney

This will depend greatly on the area you are cruising in, for example our 2001 Super Maramu 2000 cost us $3000 pa in Australian waters with Panteanius and almost $7000pa with the same company for Asia and Indian Ocean. We just moved to Velos which was about $6000 pa for Asia west and Indian Ocean (based on boat value of $395,000).

Having gone through all the comparisons recently each company varies hugely and you have to read absolutely every line in the fine print, for example Panteanius pays absolutely nothing if your boat is taken by pirates and their excess (or deductables) were 5x the amount of Velos, however they were far superior in covering personal accidents, covered us 100% for single handed sailing and had a number of other benefits plus were a pleasure to deal with.

Good luck with it but take care, there are huge differences and you need to firstly decide what is most appropriate for your needs and sailing plans.

Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] Air conditioner

Bill & Judy Rouse <yahoogroups@...>

There could be many reasons for these two apparently unrelated events. I believe that it is likely that it could be as simple as the rocker switches or thermostat in the wrong positions, or a breaker turned off.

Or, it could be more complicated.

Let us know what the A/C tech finds.

Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] Air conditioner

Alexandre Uster von Baar

Rafael,
You just purchased the boat and had the survey done by Olivier… so everything should be working.
When did you last use your Air Conditioning? (and was it working)
Are you pressing the “Diruptor” (breaker) on the 220 volt panel to allow the forward air conditioning to be powered?
Did the Salo A/C blow cold air before (during the survey)?
Could be as simple as the Capacitor.
I wish you were closer, I would use my volt meter to test the resistance…
I hope Bill and other can give you better feedback…

Sincerely, Alexandre

Hi there,

Do you know anyone living around Perth region, Western Australia with an Amel?

We have done a lot of research to date and narrowed our search down to a Super Maramu, and one other vessel type. Before we post a seeking to buy advert we were hoping there might be a remote chance of a vessel being here to see before we launch our dream of blue water cruising with our young family.

We are experienced sailors and very serious to purchase a vessel soon in the coming months........somewhere in the world.

Would love to speak to someone local who would be interested to introduce us to this boat?

Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] Bottom paint quantity for Amel Maramu

James Alton

Bill,

Thank you for your guess on the quantity and for suggesting the Micron 77,  I will look into that.  My usage over the next 2 years will be only 3-4 months  during the summer so perhaps the Micron Extra would be ok so long as it does not create other problems with flaking.
Would you know anything about the paint (s) that Amel has been using over the last 4-5 years when the paint was bought for my boat?  I am told that the last paint used was purchased from Amel and came in unmarked cans at least 4 years ago..maybe more.  It would be nice to not have to prime the hull since the old paint is in really nice condition but I sure do not want to risk an adhesion issue.

Best,

James Alton

James,

I do not know the quantity for a Maramu. A SM or 54 is 20 liters for 2 coats plus a third coat at the waterline and leading edges, leaving 1-2 liters left over on a SM. I suspect that 3 each of the 5 liter cans will do what you want.

Europe does not distribute Micron66, but they do distribute Micron77. Micron77 has an advantage over Micron66 in that it is OK for fresh or saltwater. Micron Extra is widely used in Europe. It is less costly than Micron77, but, of course, not as effective. The last I heard was that the EPA has not approved Micron77 for the USA...it has been waiting for approval about 8 years (no political statement intended). Micron77 is available in Martinique.

Hello,

I will be repainting the bottom of my Maramu for the first time this year so am unsure of the quantity required for 2 full coats.  I am planning to use the Micron Extra since apparently the Micron 66 is not available in Italy where my boat is currently.  The bottom by the way is very smooth and I will likely be applying over Primocon since I cannot positively pin down the paint currently on the boat.  I am told that it was supplied by Amel and came unmarked.  My broker says it is an International product but does not know which one.  I am pretty sure that it is an ablative since it softened once launched and amazingly kept the bottom clean for 5 weeks last season despite having been out of the water for about 4 years.  If anyone might know what was likely used, I could skip the primer.

Thanks,

James Alton
